Since 1984, TI has been creating and supporting a collaborative community of teachers, at all levels of their careers, through professional development that emphasizes the teaching and learning of science as a process for understanding the world around us.We believe that:learning is joyful we learn science by doing scienceall of us are both teachers and learnersscience classrooms should be anti-racist and equitable spacesEach summer, TI offers intensive professional development programming for middle school and high school science teachers. Participating teachers spend three weeks immersed in hands-on, inquiry-based science explorations and discussions at the Exploratorium. During the institutes, teachers work with each other and with staff scientists and educators to deepen their practice, build content knowledge, and support a more equitable learning environment in their classrooms.About The PositionThe Summer Teacher Institute Intern will support TI administrators and teaching staff in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for teachers at our Summer Institute. The position reports to the TI Project Coordinator. This position will have opportunities to:Learn about the Exploratorium’s K–12 science professional development programs and how we support science educators locally, nationally, and internationallySupport TI staff and teachers in building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community in our teaching and learning spacesAssist with program planning and logistics, including organizing materials, setting up classrooms, coordinating catering, and supporting teaching staffLearn about Salesforce and contribute to database and data management projectsReflect on their experiences in a Weekly Write Up, which can be formatted as a blog or journal entry and can be focused on surprises, challenges, or anything else that comes up About YouYou are seeking an opportunity to practice the skills you have been learning in an educational space. Skills you will bring and expand on are:Interest in education or teachingExcellent organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to work both alone and within a teamCuriosity and/or appreciation of science learningProactively interested in meeting new people and asking questionsHow To ApplyThis is a temporary, part-time (28 hours per week), non-exempt position . Participants must be able to be physically present in San Francisco for the duration of the internship: June 13– August 19, 2022. Weekly schedule is flexible within the hours of 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m Monday–Friday. The pay rate is $19/ hour.Completed applications are due Monday, March 28, 2022 (midnight PST).
