    Job Description

    The Vice President for Model Risk Operations (MRO) in the Model Risk Management (MRM) function reports directly to the Chief Model Risk Management Officer within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) division and leads the operational activities of the function through inspiring and supervising the work of several high-performing teams.

    The overall MRM function consists of two main areas, validation teams that review individual models and MRO teams that coordinate and perform activities essential to the internal- and external-facing operations of the department. In addition, to applying ERM governance framework tools to the Model Risk Management domain, the Model Risk Operations group uses advanced analytical and data science techniques to provide MRM-focused services. This VP will also be responsible for supervising reviews of the implementations of highly complex models, including those which utilize Machine Learning techniques.

    THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE The Model Risk Operations - VP role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

    • Serve as an effective people leader and manager of managers who focuses on talent attraction, retention, and development
    • Lead a team of highly productive Model Risk Governance professionals who design improvements to the Model Risk Governance framework of Policies, Standards, and Procedures; effectively use the Model Risk Oversight Committee and other Management-Level Committees to oversee the management of model risks and communicate with external (primarily Regulatory) and internal (primarily Audit) examiners
    • Bring information and resources to the model owner and user community, enabling model risk management at the 1st Line-of-Defense source of action
    • Oversee and support Model Risk Information Management services, which include but are not limited to the following: operating the Model Inventory System, producing and delivering mass-customized information from various systems, and performing content analytics on model development and implementation documents used in the validation report production pipeline
    • Lead a team of highly skilled Information Technology professionals who complete implementation reviews of individual software modeling applications to ensure implementation risks have been well-managed
    • Lead all other MRO activities such as training, budgeting and capacity planning, review scheduling coordination, owning various management routines, and collaboration with other ERM functions and framework

    THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

    • Minimum Education/Certification: Bachelor’s and Master's degrees required; PhD preferred
    • Preferred areas of study: Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other computationally intensive fields
    • Minimum Experience Required: 10+ leadership years of experience in financial services industry, with progressive management experience with over 5 years in a leadership or executive role
    • Experience leading Model Risk Management Operations for a large, complex financial institution
    • Relevant work within financial services, capital markets or insurance involving model risk management
    • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in this role in a large and complex organization
    • Expert knowledge and experience with regulatory guidance (FHFA, OCC, Fed) on model risk management, as well as integration of model risk into broader enterprise risk management frameworks
    • Demonstrated experience and ability to build, develop and motivate high performing teams to execute strategy and goals
    • Substantive experience in dealing with executive management, board of directors, regulators, and other industry bodies
