    Job Description

    The VP & Multifamily CFO leads the finance function and is a key business leader and partner for the Multifamily business division. The role is responsible for oversight of the Multifamily (MF) business unit financial performance including planning, forecasting and budgeting, management reporting and analysis, oversight of new business initiatives, as well as the application of the company's accounting and tax policies to the Multifamily business. This leader is a key business partner to the EVP of Multifamily and will drive financial accountability and consequences in the Multifamily organization. This leader will also act as a business operating leader and change agent taking responsibility for the financial and operational results of the Multifamily business.

    The VP & Multifamily CFO role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

    • Provide senior financial leadership for the Multifamily team with a $100M+ annual expense, several hundred full time employees and contractors in a transitioning spend model.
    • Provide reporting, analysis and forecasting to facilitate strategic decision making and to track performance to operating goals.
    • Act as a trusted advisor and independent lens to the EVP of Multifamily. Develop a relationship that promotes the role as an objective sounding board and broker of tough messages to ensure accountability.
    • Develop strong relationships with the senior leadership team in Multifamily. Achieve a deep understanding of the goals and activities in the organization. Identify risks, opportunities and drive collaboration to achieve results.
    • Communicate effectively at the highest levels of the organization with the ability to articulate key messages clearly and simply and respond both to questions and issues knowledgeably and with confidence. Prepare and deliver communications describing Multifamily strategies for change, operational effectiveness, and financial results to the CEO, the Executive Committee, regulators and the Fannie Mae Board of Directors.
    • Enable cross-collaboration across divisions and business units to create tools and processes that support reporting, analysis and forecasting.
    • Lead the budget and reporting process and assume shared ownership for the delivery of Multifamily financial and operational goals.
    • Lead the Multifamily finance team by ensuring the team is able to provide the appropriate level of support for the Multifamily business through critical skills in business and industry knowledge, technical knowledge, analytical skills, communication skills, and leadership skills.

    THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

    • Years of experience: 15+ required in the finance industry with progressive responsibilities.
    • Years of managerial experience: ~10 required.
    • Bachelor's degree required; CFA or CPA preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and motivate a large (10-20+ FTE) team to execute strategy and goals.
    • Substantive and frequent experience working successfully with senior business leadership.
    • Thorough understanding of the policies, processes, procedures, risks and relationships of a wide array of Finance functional areas (credit risk, pricing, market risk, accounting, budgeting) both individually, as they relate to each other and their impact on the overall business.
    • Experience in Multifamily mortgage or similar mortgage analytical-related finance positions.
    • Expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, reporting and project finance.
    • Business Acumen - knows how Fannie Mae's business works, including Multifamily; knowledgeable about current and evolving policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting Fannie Mae.
    • Knowledgeable about the competition and strategies used in the marketplace; knowledgeable about the credit risk transfer activities of the company, and its potential strategies for the future.
    • Builds Effective Teams - Blends people into teams, creates strong morale and spirit in his/her team; shares wins and successes; fosters open dialogue; lets people finish and be responsible for success and defines work in terms of the team.
    • Delegates effectively and develops employees.
