The internship program is designed to give you an opportunity to complement your formal education with career-related experience. The internship provides a stimulating and substantive work experience, coupled with an opportunity to expand your knowledge and understanding of Feeding America. The Opportunity Seeking an Intern to support the work of Feeding Americas Center for Applied Research in Action (CARA). A powerful opportunity to contribute to innovative rigorous research and dissemination activities that support understanding the experience of hunger and what solutions work to address food insecurity. 24 hrs per week during the school year, with the option to start full- or part-time in the summer - up to 40 hrs per week. Responsibilities: * Provide project-based support to key initiatives of the Research Department, including our annual Map the Meal Gap study as well as new efforts to gather information about and better serve households who utilize charitable food programs. * Gather, analyze and interpret secondary data, and create visualizations (including Tableau and infographics), literature reviews and analytic knowledge capture summaries, and ensuring the integrity of research used by the organization. * Collaborate with other members of the Research Department to provide technical assistance to other teams/departments, including (but not limited to) Community Health and Nutrition, National Programs, Communications, Planning & Analysis, and Philanthropy. * The role will also involve administrative and miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Requirements: * Cover letter and writing sample are required with application. * Chicago-based graduate student working towards a Masters degree in the social sciences. * Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills. * Knowledge of access and utilization of scholarly research. * Ability to think creatively and strategically as part of a team and within broad coalitions. * Skilled in Microsoft Office applications required. * Experience using statistical software (SPSS) to conduct data analysis preferred. * Experience working with or studying social services or supportive programming preferred, but not required. * Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau and infographic a plus, but not required. * Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger.
