The Data Solutions Unit is responsible for enhancing the data integrity of the financial regulatory reporting process, communicating data requirements and ensuring a sound data governance environment around the financial regulatory reports submitted to the U.S. regulators and other finance processes.
The Unit also partners with data management office, business data owners, IT, finance change management team and stakeholders across multiple functions and geographic locations to identify data improvement opportunities, provide leadership and solutions in the implementation of Mizuho’s data enhancement initiatives.
Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for implementing data solutions, Target Operating Model (TOM) for financial regulatory reporting and other finance processes encompassing Mizuho U.S. Operations (MUSO). This position also supports stakeholders in identifying data quality and data availability issues and creates strategic plans to address these issues through collaborative efforts with multiple business partners.
In addition, this position needs to promote industry best practice and regulatory expectations on data management. This includes ensuring preparedness of data solutions for regulatory examinations. As such, this position requires wide breadth of expertise in both financial and regulatory reporting pertaining to financial institutions, excellent technical knowledge in finance / accounting, experience in data management, project management, process improvement initiatives and excellent relationship skills to provide leadership in multiple collaborative work streams.
Core Responsibilities:
Execution of optimal data solutions in accordance to Mizuho’s Data Management Policy, industry best practice and regulatory expectations for Mizuho Americas Finance (MAF) functions.
Work closely with Finance process owners (e.g. Financial Regulatory Reporting Team) to capture and document related business requirements. Assist in drafting business requirement documents (BRD), establish technical data requirements based on BRD and communicate data requirements (including technical specifications) to stakeholders across MUSO.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial and regulatory reporting requirements and offer solutions to enhance data quality (i.e., accuracy, completeness and timeliness) of Mizuho’s regulatory filings and other finance processes;
Ensure robust and up-to-date documentation of data definitions and requirements for CDEs
Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate testing results.
Monitor data deliveries to process owners, investigate, identify and report data issues to appropriate owners.
Rise data quality and data availability issues to Data Management Office (DMO), monitor and ensure satisfactory resolution meeting the requirements of Finance process owners. Supporting the DMO Data Champion efforts.
Analyze data to diagnose issues and identify data process bottlenecks.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data delivery pipelines to process owners. This includes creating ad hoc tools for data processing and analysis.
Support process owners in drafting business data requirements documents, walkthrough requirements with IT/DMO, monitor remediation progress, conduct tests to confirm validity of data remediation solutions in UAT prior to go-live.
Work closely with Finance Quality Assurance to ensure satisfactory and timely remediation of data related issues.
Work closely with Data Management Office in ensuring Finance processes adhere to MUSO Data Management Policy.
Provide administrative support for the Centralized Issue Tracking process (JIRA) for the Bank Controller’s Department. Prepare and monitor issue management KPIs and support issue escalation as needed.
Strong ability to problem-solve without active supervision and guidance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree;
5 or more years of relevant experience in data projects for financial and regulatory reporting and performing regulatory reporting at a large and complex financial institution;
Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle and MS SQL Server, including the skills to write simple to complex SQL queries required
Working knowledge of cloud based data and analytics applications such as Snowflake
Intermediate knowledge of data architecture. How data flows from one system to another and how it ultimately becomes one version of the truth
Advance proficiency in performing data analytics using Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau and other advanced tools alike. Working knowledge in Python and R is a plus.
Advanced data analytical skills including ability to analyze complex and large data set to identify issues, themes and trends;
Familiar with referential data attributes including client, industry and product reference data that are commonly used across financial services industry.
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Strong knowledge of financial and banking products;
Knowledge of accounting, finance, regulatory reporting and risk management;
Experience with complex system development and data warehouse developments is not required but is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Visio
Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, and a “can-do” mentality working in an ever changing complex environment.
The expected base salary ranges from $90,000 - $135,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
