Our Financial Specialist is like a "bank teller," but so much more!
A Financial Specialist assists members in person making account transactions by providing efficient, accurate service within the guidelines set in the credit union policies and procedures. He or she represents the credit union to our current members by identifying the member's financial needs and providing the services that will best meet those needs.

- Can process deposits, withdrawals and loan payments for members and can help them troubleshoot any problems on their accounts

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cross-sells credit union services and products to members and answers member questions daily concerning accounts and all credit union services; suggests appropriate loan products to members and adds basic loan referral information to the system.
- Opens Certificates of Deposit and additional savings accounts as requested and provides all necessary disclosures.
- Receives checks and cash for deposit or loan payments, verifies deposit amount, examines checks for endorsements and negotiability, and enters transactions into credit union records via computer system.
- Cashes checks within approval limits and provides cash or checks from share and share draft accounts. Verifies signatures and account balances and accurately performs transactions on the computer system.
- Determines appropriate holds and inputs them on computer system on member deposits under the guidelines of the credit union check hold policy. Consistently discloses check holds to the member.
- Balances daily transactions, negotiable items and cash drawer at designated balancing time by comparing cash total to teller totals on computer system daily. Investigates and resolves cash drawer overages and shortages.
- Sells money orders and gift cards to members for cash or other sure funds, as designated in policy, recording and entering transactions on computer system.
- Assists member with questions and account problems, providing answers and solutions within the credit union guidelines, i.e., plastic card maintenance, wire services, etc. Correctly provides Visa, ACH, IRA, and ATM dispute forms and all other common forms as appropriate.
- Issues cash advances for members and non-members by obtaining authorization code, performing transaction on computer system and dispensing cash or check.
- Performs transactions for Shared Branching members following CUSN policies as well as all credit union policies. Consistently follows identification and documentation procedures for non-members.
- Redeems US Savings Bonds for members and non-members, examining for endorsements and negotiability, entering the information on the computer system and completing all necessary information on the Savings Bonds according to credit union policies and Department of the Treasury rules.
- Verifies and balances ATM deposits and night drop deposits under dual control.
- Completes CTRs for cash transactions exceeding $10,000. Provides CTRs to the Risk Management Fraud Prevention Specialist for review, filing and records retention.
- Monitors and reports suspected money laundering, structuring, or other suspicious activity by completing the Internal Report of Unusual Activity form.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude toward our members and other employees, in compliance with FFCU's Service Standards.
- Completes necessary documentation and updates data processing system appropriately for all member services. Checks for accuracy and prepares documentation for filing.
- Assists with closing the branch at the end of the business day; close out money order machine, Cash Advance, etc. to assist with branch closing.
- Assists with opening the credit union and/or vault.
- Ensures all negotiable items are secured at all times.
- Scans checks, balances scanned totals to system totals, and submits checks electronically to the Federal Reserve.
- Answers phones and directs calls to appropriate department.
- Prepares letters and other correspondence as needed.
- Maintains an adequate supply of all pre-printed forms and office supplies necessary to provide service to the membership. Prints other forms as needed to provide service to FFCU members.
- Ensures the branch interior/exterior is safe, tidy and leaves a good impression upon members. Reports any maintenance and/or safety issues to the manager immediately.
- Performs other duties as required and needed.
KNOWLEDGE:
Requires working knowledge of credit union account structures and types on both loans and shares.
Requires working knowledge of credit union operations, policies and procedures.
Requires working knowledge of credit union products and services.
Requires working knowledge of the data processing system affecting member accounts.
Requires basic filing knowledge.
Requires working knowledge of the following laws and regulations:
- Reg B, Equal Credit Opportunity

- Reg CC, Availability of Funds and Collection of Checks
- Truth in Savings
- Uniform Commercial Code
- Department of the Treasury rules regarding US Savings Bonds

Requires working knowledge of Shared Branching Services with CUSN.
Requires working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Requires at least twelve CPD Online courses per year.
Requires at least twelve webinars per year.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate PC keyboard to input data.
- Ability to clearly and politely communicate with members and other employees verbally, in writing and on the phone.
- Ability to read computer screen and printouts.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to detect and trace teller errors and make necessary corrections.
- Ability to count and handle money.
- Ability to make quality decisions concerning funds availability.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instruction.
- Ability to identify problem areas and make independent decisions to resolve problems as they relate to standard operating procedures. Problems that arise out of normal daily operations are to be communicated to the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager.
- Ability to recognize and follow credit union structure, goals and chain of command.
- Ability to perform well under stressful situations.
- Ability to keyboard 35 words per minute
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma, or its equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience working in customer service and/or sales, preferably with some cash handling.
