  • Responsibilities

    As the SENIOR BUSINESS LOAN OFFICER, this individual would initiate and analyze for approval all Member Business Loans (generally relationships between $50,000 and $250,000). They would also oversee accurate loan documentation, signing, and funding. Develop a business loan portfolio of an acceptable quality while providing excellent Member service.

    THE JOB (THE BIG STUFF):

    • Analyze the financial condition of the Member through the use of financial exhibits and other pertinent data.
    • Assess collateral requirements and/or value, and the Member’s management effectiveness and competency to form a basis for a sound credit decision.
    • Make independent decisions within scope of predetermined lending policy and guidelines. Seek approval for loans and exceptions per policy requirements.
    • Negotiate with the Member to reach terms that will accommodate their needs and be acceptable per RCU rate policies and guidelines.
    • Write credit memoranda and obtain all required loan documentation, which support the analysis performed or reviewed.
    • Identify situations where legal aspects of commercial loan documentation may impact the RCU and confer with supervisor on such matters.
    • Accurately and proficiently explain loan documents to Members. 
    • Oversee the loan closing process for each loan. 
    • Call on referrals from branches, MSC, and other departments to develop new business relationships in accordance with RCU’s overall goals and objectives.
    • Interview new and existing business applicants to develop information concerning their businesses’ needs, abilities, and earnings to determine whether loans may be an acceptable risk.
    • Determine the loan structure (including secured and unsecured LOC’s, secured and unsecured term loans, and SBA Express loans) best suited to the Member and credit requirements of RCU.

    Required Skills

    WHAT'S NEEDED IN THE ROLE:

    • Knowledge of business and personal financial statements and tax return analysis.
    • Knowledge of legal and regulatory aspects of commercial loan contracts and documentation.
    • Knowledge of credit underwriting, approval and documentation methods and procedures.
    • Skill in analyzing credit requests of nominal complexity.
    • Ability to resolve nominally complex credit requests and problems.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to identify Member needs and match them with related RCU services.
    • Ability to travel 10% of time.
    • Ability to attend morning and evening meetings and events.

    Required Experience

    Education/Experience:

    • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, and three to four years of experience in lending, are required (business lending experience preferred). A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field, with coursework in accounting and/or finance, is highly desirable.

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Ability to maintain a valid California driver’s license
