Paid Internship - Community Initiatives Job Tracking ID: 512213-616948 Job Location: Boston, MA Job Level: Student/Internship Job Type: Internship Date Updated: April 17, 2018 Years of Experience: College Starting Date: ASAP Job Description: The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFBs mission is to End Hunger Here in eastern Massachusetts, and our strategic objective is to provide at least ONE MEAL A DAY to everyone in need in eastern Massachusetts. GBFB is looking for an intern to join us this summer, working with our Community Initiatives (CI) Team. The successful intern will gain knowledge about GBFB and GBFBs direct service programs and member agencies and functions within the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting the CI team at external events as needed, including but not limited to: GBFB events, nutrition workshops, food distributions and community meetings. Providing customer service follow up with program sites regarding program standards and monthly service reporting requirements; Responding to partner inquiries regarding web-based client tracking system and providing training as needed by phone. Assisting with administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: order entry, answering and returning phone calls, processing paperwork, running data reports, mail-merges and mailings. Assisting with client recertification including but not limited to: pre-recertification data clean up and mailings, helping clients to complete applications and processing applications post-recertification. Researching communities within GBFB service area and present findings to CI team. Identify external nonprofit resources to share with the agency network on the Agency Community Portal. Assisting the CI team in creating and reviewing department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Scheduling Capacity Grant check presentations with select agencies and managing the large check ordering process for Capacity Grant check presentations. Experience and Skills: Skills: Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Excellent verbal and written communications skills including public speaking. Excellent skills in collaboration and customer service. Ability to take direction and prioritize workload. Qualifications: Enrollment in a Bachelor's Degree program Interest and commitment to the cause of alleviating hunger. Willingness and ability to travel within service area with CI team. The ideal candidate will be available to work Wednesdays Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, or Mandarin is a plus. Work Environment/Physical Demands: Ability to meet physical requirements related to agency distribution or event execution as needed. This may include setting up tables and chairs, moving things, lifting boxes of cans that weigh 25 pounds, loading and unloading cars, etc. Ability to sit up to 3 hours at a time Ability to remain on feet for up to two hours Ability to work within in an open air/cubicle environment
