    Job Description

    SVB Private is developing the next generation of Wealth Advisors for the innovation economy through our Innovation Advisor Program (IAP).

    Associates in the Innovative Advisor Program will gain deep knowledge of SVB, our clients and ecosystem as well as build a strong foundation in the principles of wealth management to support the innovation economy. This hands-on experience will also provide associates with a deep understanding of SVB’s culture, vision and values.

    IAP Overview

    Launching in September 2022, the Innovation Advisor Program will provide the knowledge and skills needed to become a Wealth Advisor at SVB Private.  The IAP Associate will participate in a twenty-four-month rotational development program to accelerate knowledge and skills needed to serve the private banking, lending, wealth management, trust, and advisory needs of SVB clients.  The program combines deep technical training with practical application.  Each IAP Associate will be required to pass the Series 65 licensing exam.

    The Innovation Advisor Program Associate role has been created as a part of a strategic initiative to enable SVB Private to expand its capacity to serve clients in the Innovation Economy.

    The program includes:

    • A three-month foundational training experience as a cohort

    • Five three-month rotational job assignments

    • A six-month assignment on a Wealth Advisory team

    • Continued learning throughout the program:  case studies, classroom, facilitated discussions and self-paced learning

    • Preparation for taking the Series 65 licensing exam (passing the exam is a requirement of the program)

    • Networking and social experiences

    • Placement on a Wealth Advisory team at the conclusion of the program (dependent upon fulfilling all program requirements)

    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written with the ability to explain complex situations with ease

    • Exhibits professional presence

    • Proficient at researching information and gathering pertinent items to identify appropriate solutions

    • Organized and strong attention to detail

    • Team player who can also work well independently

    • Manage time effectively

    • Ability to network internally as well as externally to build relationships

    • The ideal candidate is a new MBA or Business Undergraduate who may have 1 or 2 years of work experience; preferably in financial services, private equity or venture capital with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated interest in sales, finance, and entrepreneurship (via classes taken, internships, employment).

    In addition, candidates should have a strong base of technical ability coupled with the soft skills needed to collaborate with various teams during and after completion of the Innovation Advisor Program. 

    Program Location

    Associates will be aligned to one of our hub locations – Boston, NYC, Miami, San Francisco. We are planning for a hybrid program; some components will require associates to be in the office and some components will be done virtually.  Program management will have sole discretion regarding the in-person and virtual program components.
