The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation. The legal department is predominately organized by practice groups that conform to the organization of the Firm's lines of business (LOBs) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis. Each line of business has an LOB General Counsel, who is the Practice Group Head and who reports to the Firm's General Counsel. Practice Group Description The Global Technology and Intellectual Property Law Practice Group consists of legal professionals who provide legal support for the firm's technology and other transactions, intellectual property management, third party provider oversight, risk and controls, IP litigation, and sourcing and procurement operations. This group is entrepreneurial and innovative in providing legal services in a way to seek maximum benefit for JPMorgan Chase. This group works closely with the end client, serving as a valuable business partner in addressing risks expeditiously and achieving the client's goals within the parameters of JPMorgan Chase policy and procedure. The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Intellectual Property attorney with one to three years of relevant experience to join the Global Technology and Intellectual Property Law Practice Group. This attorney will be primarily responsible for patent legal matters, including assessing inventions to develop intellectual property strategy, intellectual property enforcement and litigation, and third-party intellectual property clearance. The attorney will support all lines of business and corporate staff areas. The candidate will primarily: * Process invention disclosures, including determining an appropriate intellectual property strategy and working with outside counsel to draft and prosecute patent applications that thoroughly and accurately protect JPMorgan Chase inventions. * Interface with lines of business to cultivate, capture, and obtain patent or trade secret protections for novel inventions. * Perform legal research and prepare legal guidance documents and training materials for internal clients. * Provide technology and intellectual property law advice and counsel to the internal clients and partners Qualifications * 1-3 years of legal experience practicing law post JD in a law firm or corporate law department * Must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction * Strong interest in and desire to develop intellectual property law skills * Some experience in intellectual property and financial services is a plus * Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and common sense * Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams * Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, and consistent follow through * Strong written and oral communication skills * Robust analytical and computer skills * Common sense, sound judgment, and a good sense of humor * Proven track record of meeting deadlines, learning quickly, taking the initiative, working proactively, being resourceful and shouldering additional responsibility
