  • Responsibilities

    Louis Dreyfus Company, a privately held firm involved primarily in the international trading and merchandising of agricultural commodities, is looking for a Corporate Intermediate Accountant to join the Accounting team in the Wilton, Connecticut Office.  This position provides financial accounting and analytical services for corporate entities and futures and options broker (internal broker). This position is responsible for all financial aspects of the monthly and quarterly closing for Term Commodities and Zephyr Coffee Merchandising Company.

    Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    Internal Broker (Futures and Options Broker)

    • Prepare reconciliation of all futures and options positions with external exchanges.
    • Prepare reconciliation of all intercompany derivative balances.
    • Reconcile all current income tax accounts quarterly and book quarterly tax provisions.
    • Prepare monthly all balance sheet reconciliations and monthly closing binder.
    • Prepare and record journal entries.
    • Prepare regulatory reports (1-FR) monthly.
    • Review/monitor daily cash reconciliation.
    • Assist with financial and tax audits.
    • Prepare and analyze annual budget.
    • Participate in the preparation of annual financial statements and accompanying footnotes.

    Coffee Activities:

    • Completes the monthly close for a coffee merchandising company
    • Completes all monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including inventories, open contracts, futures and option portions (including margining) and books all related month-end journal entries.
    • Reconciles all intercompany transactions with global and regional counterparts.
    • Calculates futures and options P&L daily
    • Prepares various weekly reports including cash flow report, quantities schedules and position reports.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Assists in the preparation of the budget and populates full package into Magnitude.
    • Provides support and documentation for year-end audit (December) and half year review.
    • Addresses special requests/projects, such as performing additional analyses of financial data and preparing ad-hoc reports.
    • Serve as a back-up to the Staff Accountant on Corporate Activities

     

     

    Required Skills

    The following are the required qualifications:

    • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
    • Strong analytical and accounting skills.
    • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and consolidation/reporting software.       Microsoft Dynamics AX, Cartesis Magnitude and SAP Business Objects preferred.
    • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
    • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty.
    • Individual will be expected to work with minimal up front guidance and take ownership for his/her work product.
    • The individual will work closely with all major functional leaders of the Company.

    Required Experience

    The following is the required qualification:

    • 2+ years of accounting and/or business experience.

    EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

    The following is the required qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, OR a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration, with a minor or concentration in Accounting

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Climate-controlled office environment, with exposure to fast-paced trading floor. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies.
