Louis Dreyfus Company, a privately held firm involved primarily in the international trading and merchandising of agricultural commodities, is looking for an Agronomist to join the Grains Research team in the Wilton, Connecticut Office. This position utilizes both computer based modeling as well as field observations to project the US corn, wheat and soybean acreage and production on an annual basis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Forecast acreage and yield for corn, wheat and soybeans in the US
- Arrange, manage and help execute the acreage and crop tours
- Provide regular updates to the Grain and Oilseed Platforms on changes to yield or production
- Utilize historical data and modeling to strengthen the field observation analysis
- Stay up to date on seed technology, farming practices, cost of production and any other new trends in the farming industry
- Frequent travel is required domestically during the summer/crop season, approximately 45-60 days per year with some international travel for meeting
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advance the use of crop tours in offices outside the US
Encourage new practices to improve our data gathering and analysis
Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Experience
The following is the required qualification:
- 1 year of experience in an agricultural technology, seed, or trading company with a focus on research; will consider relevant projects done in school as experience
The following are the preferred qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in an agricultural technology, seed, or trading company with a focus on research, and proficiency in mapping/GIS software, as well as statistical analysis software
- Programming competency in Python and/or R
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
The following is the required qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural related field – agronomy, agricultural economics, agricultural science, etc.

- Master’s or PhD in an agricultural related field – agronomy, agricultural economics, agricultural science, etc.
Working Conditions
- Primarily climate-controlled office environment. The extension of regular working hours is occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or respond to emergencies.
