  • Responsibilities

    This position is responsible to maintain and repair operating equipment for a soybean crushing and biodiesel plant. Primary function is to ensure that the machinery and equipment in the plant remain in good working order to optimize plant productivity and efficiencies. Responsible for complying with all applicable Company standards and government regulations. Maintenance responsibilities include project and outage work.  This position may also be responsible for activities related to Pipefitting and Millwright/Fabrication.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Maintains and repairs operating equipment, including removal, installation, rebuilding, lubrication and cleaning of all equipment associated with the production process
    • Welds, torches, cuts, fabricates, and pipe threading
    • Maintains utility equipment, diesel fire pumps, locomotives, rail tracks, and other associated equipment
    • Performs basic instrument replacement and basic electrical work
    • Learns plant process and procedures for plant start-up, shut-down and operations for better understanding of how equipment is utilized
    • Ensures orderly shift change by communicating with outgoing operations staff with respect to maintenance problems or other ongoing issues and/or tasks

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Actively participates in Shift/Team activities including complying with best practices, standard operating procedures, development and maintenance and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Actively participates in job-related training as required.

    Required Skills

    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and industrial processing machinery
    • Knowledge of PLC, Instrumentation, Ladder Logic, MCC’s and Electrical systems
    • Ability to perform all duties of position while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements, e.g., OSHA (including PSM), EPA, USDA, ISO 9000 and BQ-9000
    • Ability to read electrical and equipment schematics
    • Ability to provide instruction with respect to computer control systems and machine operation/repair
    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights; manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more which requires regular bending and lifting
    • Mechanical aptitude, basic math skills, fundamental PC skills and effective communication skills are required.

     EQUIPMENT USED

    • Production machinery and operating equipment with dials, gauges and controls.

    • Use of computer for entering data into electronic data system and control operating equipment.

    • Use of occupational health and safety testing equipment (e.g., air monitors) in compliance with OSHA regulations.

    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

     

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.

    • Routine visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.

    • Technicians are scheduled to work nights with a total of 8- 10 hour days on a bi-weekly pay period with occasional weekend work and 1 week on call 24-7 every 4th week

    • There are two scheduled week to 2 week shutdowns each year 1 in spring and 1 in fall, 12 plus hour shifts will be worked for the duration of the shutdown

     

    EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION

    • This is a non-exempt non-supervisory position.

    Required Experience

    • Four (4) years of experience with welding, cutting, gearbox repair, pump alignment, material handling systems, preventive maintenance, and/or instrument and electrical work in an industrial processing facility or in a machine shop.

     Preferred qualifications:

    • Pipefitting and Millwright/Fabrication experience

    EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

    Basic qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Valid Driver’s License

     Preferred qualifications:

    • Technical degree is preferred.
