  • Responsibilities

    Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia and southern West Virginia, is seeking Welders on 1st shift at our Chesapeake, Virginia facility.  These positions are responsible for performing new fabrication and welding repairs.  Required skills include welding, fabricating, designing, salvaging and building-up equipment and/or components.  General welding and fabrication using gas, stick, MIG and TIG welding.  Seeking candidates with two years' minimum experience welding and fabricating on heavy equipment with portable machines.  Ability to use precision instruments (micrometers, dial indicators, etc.) a plus. 

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
    • Certificate of technical training and/or knowledge in welding and machinery.
    • Must be able to fabricate new components from shop drawings, templates and/or blueprints.
    • Follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work
    • Keep area clean throughout day to maintain safe working area; observe all safety procedures and policies.
    • Must have good computer skills.
    • Able to work overtime as required by job and customer demand.

       

    Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects.  This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum 2 years experience in a mortgage lending environment, with exposure to loan closing. Investor documentation/packaging experience preferred.
    • PC skills to include word-processing, spreadsheets and Outlook.
    • General knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC and investor documentation and packaging requirements.
    • Strong analytical and time management skills. Accurate typing and 10-key calculator.
    • Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Ability to accurately complete assigned tasks within strict timeframes.
    • Ability to self-direct, use independent judgment, and multi-task with proficiency.
    • Working knowledge of TCU products/services and the ability to cross-sell them to members.
