Job Summary: The Underwriter is responsible for the review, evaluation and the judgment of risk of prospective application submissions for Workers Compensation and Businessowner Insurance within a state(s) specific independent agency group. The Underwriter is responsible for the evaluation of risk associated with new and renewal accounts based on agency performance, state performance, and pricing adequacy. If the Underwriter analysis determines the risk is reasonable, the Underwriter will then establish a price point, follow up on the quote, and bind the account. The Underwriter collaborates with Sales and Claims to ensure profitability of their assigned shared state territory. The Underwriter also serves as a member of the regional production team and is responsible for maintaining Insurance Agency relationships and meeting new business productivity, renewal, retention and pricing goals. Specific duties include the following: * Profitably manages assigned territory. * Reviews referrals and applications for coverage requiring underwriting acceptance of risks using professional judgment in accordance with company risk appetite and company guidelines. * Determines appropriate financial alternatives based on exposures, controls, loss trends, loss prevention services, economic conditions and financial acceptability. * Achieves a balanced, profitable and quality book of business while protecting company assets. * Keeps current on assigned states and territory regulations and industry intelligence. * Preserves profitability by managing risk performance through co-ordination with Loss Control, Premium Audit, Claims and Sales through monitoring of loss experience and taking appropriate action to reduce or eliminate future claims. * Participates in the monitoring of Agents and evaluates results and relationships. * Makes recommendations for growth strategies capitalizing on new identified opportunities. * Builds strong relationships with Agents and prospective and current insureds. * Meet new business production, renewal retention and pricing goals. * Travel to state territories for Agency exposure and Convention attendance a minimum of two times a year. Job Requirements * Bachelor's degree required, business related preferred. * Minimum 2 years business related experience or prior experience in risk or insurance underwriting required. * Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience in workers compensation, commercial, and/or Businessowner Policy products. * Strong quantitative analytical skills desired. * Competitive, analytical and results-oriented.. * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with fluency in Microsoft Excel application. * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. * Demonstrated experience developing successful business relationships. * Business Specific Criteria (Preferred Skills):
