The COVID crisis and the uprising for racial justice have shone national light on both the urgent work required to build a more just and vibrant society for all Americans and the potential for positive action when our communities mobilize. We have also celebrated the “heroes”, who primarily work in nonprofits delivering essential services like affordable housing, social justice advocacy, health, youth development, to the arts. Yet these nonprofits continue to rely on a flawed, inequitable funding system that often impedes their ability to make a difference. Nonprofit Finance Fund is setting out to change that. We are a nonprofit lender, consultant, and advocate with 40 years of experience committed to reforming the nonprofit funding system. We know that financial knowledge and access to appropriate lending products are power for nonprofit leaders. We are now evolving our strategy to focus on helping to shift funding and financing practices so more money flows equitably and with less restriction to community-centered organizations led by and/or serving people of color.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Advisory Services Analysts support the delivery of NFF’s services to social sector clients and serve as an integral member of the team. As an entry-level position, Analysts engage a wide cross-section of the team and work closely with practice managers and senior consultants by providing project management, relevant sector research, and analyses of quantitative and qualitative data.

The NFF Advisory Practice is a fast-paced environment, and Analysts help to manage a substantial portfolio of work. Successful Analysts exercise excellent time and task management skills; work efficiently within a team structure; communicate in a clear, compelling, and accessible manner; exhibit a high level of individual accountability; and embody NFF’s values in all tasks and responsibilities.

This position can be based out of any one of NFF’s office locations which are in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, and Philadelphia. Though we are currently working remotely and will not require attendance in any office until 2021 at the earliest.

The Analyst will report to the Associate Director, Advisory Services who is based in New York, NY.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work internally with the Advisory Services Operations and Knowledge teams and externally with initiative teams to support rigorous systems and data management, capacity and project management, and organizational learning.
• Support initiatives by working closely with senior consultants to plan and manage project work plans, timelines, and deliverables.
• Demonstrate comfort communicating with clients and funders around initiative timelines, client financial information and data capture, and scheduling as well as track and manage progress against budget, capacity, and delivery targets.
• Coordinate and arrange logistics for in-person and virtual events, including inviting and assisting workshop and clinic attendees, internal team coordination, venue/platform selection, and overseeing marketing, timeline, and other event logistics as needed.
• Manage report timelines, and invoicing and billing for program engagements and funders, including disbursement and tracking of re-grants where applicable.
• Support the development, distribution, collection, and analysis of pre-engagement and post-engagement client outcomes surveys.
• Conduct financial analysis and sector research. Synthesize analyses into observations about the financial health and performance of NFF’s clients and the social sector.
• Organize and synthesize knowledge-related documents and track new content or tools in development.
• Contribute to high-quality client deliverables, including PPT presentations, engagement letters, research reports, and workshop/training curriculum.
• Work closely with other Advisory Services Analysts to synthesize learnings and improve overall team coordination.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• The position requires close coordination between multiple divisions within Advisory Services (Operations/Knowledge/Client Services Delivery/Business Development). As such, the applicant must have strong communication skills and an ability to work closely with their manager and other senior consultants to meet a broad range of responsibilities.
• The ability to analyze, synthesize, and present complex data and information in an accessible manner.
• Project management skills and familiarity with the development of work plans and Gantt Chart project plans.
• Time management, attention to detail, and multi-tasking abilities.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a close-knit group of professionals.
• Interest and ability to travel nationally, year-round, up to 15% of the time.
• Demonstrated interest in the social sector and an openness to learning about new things.
• Flexible, curious, creative, and enthusiastic, with a sense of humor.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/BENEFICIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience with SharePoint, Salesforce, and other data analysis tools.
• Facility with nonprofit accounting, finance, financial model building, and/or statistics.
• Bachelor’s Degree.

COMPENSATION:

At NFF, we are invested in discussing the depth and breadth of each candidate’s background and experience during the interview process and using that information to determine the best offer. The salary range for this position begins at $44,000. NFF also provides an attractive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, standard holidays, and commuter benefits.
