THE EXPERIENCE
The program provides tremendous experience in marketing, research, and financial planning as well as personal, professional, and leadership development that will last a lifetime. As an intern, you will be working alongside seasoned financial representatives and other professionals, but your experience will go beyond just financial planning. You’ll also conduct marketing and research so you can better identify, develop, and navigate your potential market before pursuing a full-time career in the field.
FINANCIAL PLANNING: More than just training and professional guidance, you’ll get valuable, hands-on financial planning experience by working directly with clients to empower them financially.
- Work with people who are interested in engaging in a financial planning experience.
- Participate in joint work with successful, experienced financial advisors in our firm to provide a comprehensive financial plan to individuals who desire to have this valuable service provided to them.
- Help people put plans in place to become more financially secure.
MARKETING AND RESEARCH: In addition to financial planning, you have the opportunity to conduct highly targeted, real-world marketing and research. Once completed, you'll present your research to senior directors in your capstone presentation at the end of the semester.
- Engage in marketing activities by sharing what Northwestern Mutual actually does with people in our target market
- Complete market research with our target market about their experiences thus far with financial advisors and what they’d ideally, like out of a financial planning experience with a trusted financial advisor.
- Earn an opportunity to present your learnings about yourself, your research, the internship, and financial security planning in a capstone presentation
LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT: From self-management and self-motivation to courage, interpersonal risk-taking, and leading others, the program allows students to achieve a leadership mindset that will guide them as you pursue full-time opportunities

FALL INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
- Hours are VERY flexible: We will work together to create a schedule that works with your college classes and athletic schedule.
- Part-Time Internship: 15 – 20 hours a week (You can work more hours if you choose)
- THE INTERNSHIP IS HYBRID! You may come into the office as often as you would like, however most work can be completed remotely and we only require you to come in one day per week.
- A valuable part of your internship experience is finding the right balance between work, school, and personal life.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ANY MAJOR ACCEPTED - NO FINANCE BACKGROUND REQUIRED
- MUST BE FROM THE PITTSBURGH AREA OR GO TO SCHOOL IN PITTSBURGH AREA
- You know how to connect with people, building personal, trusted relationships
- Motivated self-starter
- A full-time college student in Junior or Senior year (undergrad or graduate)
- Strong academic performance - 3.0 and above
- Active involvement in clubs/organizations, community, ect.
- Leadership experience in athletics, Greek life, campus organizations, ect.
- Financial planning is interesting to you
- You're a driven person who's committed to succeeding
