    Novavax is seeking a Project Engineer Intern who will report to the Manager of Engineering at our Gaithersburg, MD campus. The position is primarily on-site with flexibility to be partly remote. The Project Engineer Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with all members of the Engineering Team and other various Manufacturing Teams (Engineering, Facilities, Supply Chain, Quality Control, Drug Substance Manufacturing, or Drug Product Manufacturing) to gain an understanding of bio-pharma project management and GMP Manufacturing processes.

    THE CANDIDATE MAY WORK ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING, BUT NOT RESTRICTED TO:

    • Work individually and as part of a team on a variety of projects ranging from small focused tasks to large capital projects. Projects will support Manufacturing, Lab Functions, and Facilities and will focus on capital improvements, process and/or equipment improvement, cost containment, efficiency, and regulatory and/or compliance initiatives.
    • Assist in engineering projects related to new or upgraded equipment, processes and site operational initiatives.
    • Learn to prepare and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets to meet milestones and strategies.
    • Communicate project status and highlight critical path activities to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
    • Support project activities including assisting in the development of user requirement specifications, FAT, SAT, and commissioning/validation.
    • Collaborate with in-house Engineering and Maintenance staff, outside vendors, and internal operations teams to effectively transition projects through their lifecycle, including design, implementation, start-up/commissioning, validation, and turn-over to the customer.
    • Assist in support projects of Installation and relocation of equipment as needed.
    • Understand the workings of Equipment and Building Monitoring System.
    • Gain technical understanding of critical building systems including, but not limited to HVAC, ISO Classified Clean Roms, WFI, Clean Steam, Compressed Air and Gases etc.

    DURATION: 8 weeks; summer 2021

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Currently enrolled in a degree program pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Engineering degree (Junior/Senior).
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Experience with MS Project, Visio, databases, spreadsheets, and other computerized tools is preferred.
    • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Participate in process improvement and optimization projects.
