    OVERALL PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

    This position performs basic accounting and operational functions for a regional office of a privately held firm involved primarily in the international merchandising and manufacturing of agricultural commodities.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Oversee fixed asset reporting including reconciliation of fixed | | asset module to G/L, monthly depreciation entries and fixed asset | | additions / CIP projects. | | - Prepare and enter journal entries and accruals to general ledger | | accounts with source documents on a monthly basis. | | - Prepare, maintain, and analyze entries and reconciliations for | | vessel related activities. | | - Complete all monthly balance sheet reconciliations. | | - Reconcile various accounts: reviews general ledger against source | | documents to identify discrepancies and communicates with other LDC | | offices, LDC personnel or outside counterparties to | | resolve discrepancies. | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Prepare financial statements for multiple LD Company subsidiaries | | using Magnitude web-based database. | | - Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analysis as part | | of the financial statement preparation. | | - Support the year-end and mid-year audits performed by external | | auditors by gathering and preparing supporting documents and | | schedules per their information requests. | | - Prepare and analyze budgets by working with facility supervisors and | | other groups within LDC. | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES | | | | +----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | ---+ | | | - Addresses special requests/projects, such as performing additional | | | | | | analyses of financial data and preparing adhoc reports. | | | | | | - Other tasks as assigned. | | | | | | | | | | | |   | | | | | +----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | ---+ | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+

    Required Skills

    The following are the basic qualifications:

    Knowledge of general ledger accounting practices.

    Strong practical accounting skills.

    Proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software, (e.g., Excel and MS Word).

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Ability to analyze account variances.

     

    The following are the preferred qualifications:      

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains accounting software.

    Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, Vlookups).

    Strong documentation and organizational skills.

    Ability to work independently and propose solutions.

    Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict monthly deadlines.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Typical climate-controlled office environment. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete various time sensitive projects (ex. month-end reporting, external auditors).

     

    EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION

         No supervisory responsibilities.

     

    DECISION MAKING/ACCOUNTABILITY

    Applies knowledge of accounting to analyze balance sheet and income statement account fluctuations and to detail balance sheet reconciliations. Determines whether to make accruals or adjustments, identifies sources of discrepancies, prioritizes personal workload throughout the month to ensure deadlines are met, makes recommendations based on analysis and consults with supervisor regarding complex issues.

    Required Experience

    The following are the basic qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least 2+ years’ work experience in accounting.

     

    EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

    The following are the basic qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting.

    The following is the preferred qualification: Master’s degree (or higher) in accounting or business.
