    We are looking for an OPERATOR to join our team in Grand Junction, IA. This position is responsible for operating machines and equipment, as well as the associated computer control system for a dry mill ethanol plant. 

     

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Load and unload all inbound and outbound trucks with DDG’s, MWDG’s and Ethanol.
    • Conduct daily inspection checks and perform necessary maintenance on the pay loaders.
    • Operates Cook/Fermentation process equipment, including testing and making adjustments to optimize plant efficiencies; handles bulk chemicals and enzymes storage.
    • Performs Cleaning in Place (CIP) routines on all required process equipment.
    • Conducts quality control tests on product streams; samples and tests products and enters data into the electronic data system.
    • Complies with Company safety rules and wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.
    • Performs all required inspection rounds; records all visual damage and mechanical problems that occur while on shift and notifies Team Leader and/or Production Manager of any production or safety problems.
    • Ensures orderly shift change by reviewing logbooks, inventory sheets, process computer and communicating issues and/or ongoing tasks with incoming operators

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    •  Maintains accurate and timely production data logs.
    • Accepts/carries out/completes other duties as assigned.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Continuous 24/7 plant operation with off-shift call-in requirements when needed. Regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust, and odors; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise. Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required. Position will require regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing in order to access and occasionally work in remote areas of the plant, heights and confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • 1 year of experience in an industrial processing facility or in a machine shop OR 2 months’ experience in one of our Ethanol plants
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and machinery
    • Ability to operate machinery and computer systems while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements, e.g., OSHA (including PSM), EPA, USDA, ISO 9000 and BQ-9000
    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at extended heights up to 150 feet, manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; and move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more, which requires bending and lifting
    • Successful completion of pre-employment screening (background check), physical and drug testing

     

    Preferred:

    • Professional certification and/or valid forklift certification
    • Experience in the ethanol industry
    • Experience with mechanical room operations in an industrial processing facility or in a machine shop
    • NCRC Preferred

  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS    Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work. 

    7 or more years of experience working in progressively more responsible safety and environmental roles in a manufacturing environment so as to be familiar with manufacturing equipment, environment and procedures. 

    3 or more years managing safety and environmental programs in a corporate environment. 

    Knowledge of governmental safety compliance regulations and their influence on manufacturing operations and policies. 

    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and manage the work of others. 

    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both individually and in group settings, with individuals at all levels of the organization. 

    Ability to resolve problems regarding policies, procedures and safety programs.  Must have interpersonal skills to influence participants and decision-makers. 

    Ability to travel several times each year to other facilities and flexibility to work non-traditional business hours as needed. Some of our operations work 24/7.
