The Data Engineering group within TD Ameritrade is responsible for providing system and infrastructure solutions in a Big Data environment. The team has a variety of responsibilities for monitoring and resolving day to day issues, creating new platforms and deploying new tools. The team is highly agile and continuously evaluating new tools and technologies to stay abreast of the best tools for the environment. The intern will gain knowledge of all infrastructure servers, firewalls and interdependencies between data centers.

The Platform Engineer intern will be provided an opportunity to learn how TD Ameritrade succeeds in the financial services marketplace through the successful use of technology. The Platform Engineer intern will join a team and assist/be responsible for, installing, configuring, and testing new and existing technologies with a focus on scripting and automation. You will quickly learn how our technical solutions directly meet the real world needs of our clients. This is a full time role (8 hours per day, Monday through Friday). The work location is St. Louis. The internship may lead to an offer to become a full time associate or an offer for a subsequent internship (depending on graduation date).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to evaluate new tools and bring them into production in a short period of time.
• Preform basic implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting for enterprise platforms.
• Provide basic scripting for integration or tool creation.
• Basic server administration and production support
• All interns will work with internal customers to define business problems/opportunities as well as the solution requirements, design, and testing approach
• All interns will work as part of a team that supports a functional area of the business; specific projects assigned will be determined on individual education and experience level
• All interns will gain direct exposure to agile methodologies

REQUIREMENTS

• Current enrollment in a four year or graduate program (computer information science, network engineering, information technology, or similar technology degree; business analytics, finance, management or similar business degree)
• Successful completion of college sophomore study semesters
• GPA of 3.0 or greater
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; prior internship experience is a plus
• Ability to understand and assimilate with TD Ameritrade core values of people matter, client centric, integrity first, work together and strive to win

Technology Engineer Role Requirements:

• Impressive capabilities with:
  • An strong aptitude and desire to adopt new technologies
  • Automation technologies (Jenkins, Ansible, etc.)
  • Scripting (bash, pearl, python)
  • Knowledgeable in Network technologies (firewalls, switches, routers)
  • Knowledgeable with Operating Systems (Linux, RedHat, Windows)
  • Knowledgeable with Database technologies (MS SQL, Oracle, Postgres, NOSQL)
• Producing professional quality project artifacts including but not limited to business requirement documents, task plans, models (e.g. data, event, context and process) and use cases
