Regional’s Software Development Engineers develop creative cost-effective solutions to real-world business problems as we build out an omni-channel digital strategy to enable growth at our firm. Our customers come first at Regional. Our technology team is focused on building technology products that delight our customers on online and mobile channels as well as equip our team members to provide outstanding experiences to our customers who prefer to interact with us over the phone and at our retail branch locations.
As a Senior Manager Software Engineering, you will work on specific projects critical to the success of our fast-paced business and enable the ambitious growth plans that we have as a company. You will be a versatile individual that displays leadership qualities and is enthusiastic to take on problems across our full-stack as we build the Regional Management of the future. You will be able to prioritize well, communicate clearly and have a strong track record of delivery and outstanding software engineering skills. You are also someone who loves to learn and is seeking better ways to do things.
While we currently work in a mostly Microsoft tech stack (.Net), we are expanding our use of open source and are currently developing digital assets using python and Django. In addition, we are building out an automated CI/CD pipeline to improve our abilities to automated testing and ship code to production more efficiently. Last but not least, you are excited about system design as we in the process of refactoring our code to move to a service-based architecture.
Duties and responsibilities
Oversee engineering staff activities
Determine root cause of issues and communicate appropriately to internal and external customers.
Mentor, support and develop junior and mid-level software engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities
Builds/obtains (from other departments) training material for support staff.
As needed, schedule employees working times and provide backup support.
Assume overall management and responsibility for all aspects of the applications development department
Planning, coordinating, and monitoring the progress of development projects to ensure their ongoing alignment with business goals
Hiring, training, motivating, and evaluating staff
Serving as a liaison to senior IT management
Reporting on the status of current projects, identifying issues and assessing their impact, and proactively recommending solutions
Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols and standards in support of IT development projects procurement and development efforts.
The applications development manager performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, assigning and directing computer applications program design, development and implementation.
Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Continuously improve development practices by collecting, analyzing and summarizing development and service issues
Grow engineering teams by interviewing, recruiting, and hiring
Remain cool and effective in a crisis
Stay on the leading edge of development practices
Passionate about great technologies, especially open source
Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
3-5 years previous IT Management/Supervisory
7+ years of Application Development and/or IT Project Management
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong experience with .NET, C#, ASP.NET, CSS, JavaScript, XML, Web Services, Visual Basic and MS SQL.
Ability to adjust to a rapidly changing work environment.
Must pass drug screen and other pre-employment screenings
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree and/or technical certifications.
Previous experience in consumer finance industry.
Working conditions
This position primarily works in an office environment, sitting at a desk, working on a computer.
