    HSBC’s Commercial Real Estate Group is looking to add an energetic, driven self-starter to join our Commercial Real Estate team in San Francisco, California. In this role, you will have an opportunity to join a growing team endeavoring to support our internationally minded clients with their real estate capital and banking needs. The new Relationship Manager (RM) or Associate Relationship Manager (ARM) (depending on experience level) will be a crucial member of our team, helping to deliver on the unique and bespoke needs of the most established and well regarded real estate investors, owners and operators in the world. The position will be located in San Francisco, California office under HSBC’s hybrid work model reporting to the Regional Head.

    The HSCB Commercial Real Estate team is among the most preeminent providers of construction, development, bridge and loan-on-loan financing in the country. We pursue the largest and most sophisticated real estate concerns in the world across all key product types (apartment, student and senior housing, industrial, condo, retail, life sciences, loan-on-loan, etc.) with an increased focus around critical ESG initiatives.

    The ARM or RM is expected to spearhead driving growth within an existing portfolio of relationships and onboarding new clients as well. The ARM or RM will be a client advocate and team player. This role will assess the risks and benefits from both the bank and the client perspective in order to achieve a balanced outcome. This role will entail adhering to the HSBC values, business strategy, operational policies, regulatory requirements, risk/credit appetite and best practices. The ARM or RM will also take on responsibility relative to key aspects of new credit requests and facilitating onboarding, internal and external relationship reviews, and working on ad hoc projects including opportunity pitches, preparing and presenting deal memoranda, prospect research and calling, market analysis, client portfolio reporting and others as required.

    The ARM or RM is also expected to be an integral part of the commercial banking team delivering holistic banking services, maximizing client engagement and delivering operational efficiency. The ARM or RM will be expected to prepare concise, thoughtful underwriting memoranda, appropriately research and analyze client and project financial metrics, vet feasibility and sponsor qualifications, report on industry and competitor financial and macro/micro-economic data, and be an active participant in client due-diligence and prospecting calls. In addition, the role holder will be expected to represent the bank at client meetings, introduce product partners, coordinate the application process, and work closely with internal stakeholders on credit or product onboarding processes, systems updating, KYC and loan documentation.

    • Experience working in a fast paced client focused environment with a demonstrated understanding of commercial real estate underwriting, lending and credit risk assessment particularly relating to complex real estate projects with very sophisticated sponsorship

    • Advanced analytical and interpersonal skills, excellent writing skills, direct experience with assessing commercial real estate project feasibility and debt capacity, next level proficiency in Excel modeling and experience with ARGUS (a plus)

    • Broad knowledge of corporate banking and real estate markets and loan structures, products and services

    • Passion around changing sky lines by financing among the most noteworthy real estate projects in the world

    • Knowledge of the banking regulatory environment, policies, documentation and procedures

    Requirements

    Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

    • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a client-focused environment with a demonstrated understanding of commercial real estate finance and corporate finance evidenced through real estate project and/or corporate lending including an understanding of financial accounting and commercial real estate loan underwriting, terms negotiation and documentation

    • At least 2+ years of credit training /underwriting experience

    • Appreciation for working in a global environment and working with, and as part, of a diverse team

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with Word/Excel proficiency

    • Strong team skills promoting an environment of cooperation, trust and mutual respect

    • Demonstrated analytical and financial analysis skills of both entities and projects

    • Excellent prioritizing, organizational and time management skills and ability to flourish in a fast passed dynamic environment

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, real estate or other related field
