SAIF Corporations legal internship programavailable to second and third-year law studentscould lead to full-time employment with us as a trial attorney upon graduation from law school and passage of the Oregon State Bar. In fact, all of the law students who have successfully completed the SAIF legal internship program since 2003 have been hired as SAIF trial attorneys. Job Overview Youll benefit from SAIFs collaborative style and strong training and development programs, and youll work with experienced, expert staff within the Legal Division and throughout the company. Youll receive practical training in substantive workers' compensation law; medicine; case evaluation, preparation, and presentation at administrative hearings; legal writing; client relationships; and professionalism. To help develop these skills, youll be assigned to a coach attorney. Responsibilities Areas of responsibility include: Research legal questions. Draft legal memoranda, arguments, and briefs to be submitted to the Oregon Workers Compensation Board at the request and under the supervision of SAIF attorneys. Assist SAIF attorneys in the preparation of cases for trial and appeal; assist with special projects. Perform miscellaneous tasks on behalf of the SAIF Legal Division. Appear in administrative law hearings under the supervision of a coach attorney (as a third-year student only.) Qualifications Required Admitted in good standing to an accredited law school and in the second or third year of classes Recommended Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team doing complex, confidential work Analytical, research, and writing skills demonstrating an ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and persuasive way Basic personal computer and word processing skills Valid driver license and good driving record for occasional travel out of the office Position Information Location: The position is located in Salem. Start date: January 2019 Hours: Daytime hours, flexible schedule, approximately 14-20 hours per week during school year and full time during summer break 2019.
