Square’s rapidly growing financing platform, Square Banking Credit, has revolutionized the way businesses and consumers obtain the funding needed to achieve their goals.

Unlike traditional business financing products, Square Banking Credit offers are extended to pre-qualified sellers based on their business performance, funds are deposited as soon as the next business day, and are customizable based on the Seller’s needs. Since the product launched in 2014, Square Banking Credit has extended more than $9 billion to hundreds of thousands of sellers worldwide.

As a software engineer on the Banking Credit Foundations and Originations Team, you will help us grow and expand access to Credit for our Square sellers. You will be responsible for designing, building and owning sophisticated and highly available financial systems. You will join our team inventing and pioneering new services and platforms that serve and run our capital, underwriting, and origination products by re-imagining how we design and build modern cloud systems.

As an engineer on our team, you will:

• Lead and empower an outstanding team of engineers by mentoring individuals, promoting pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the quality of design decisions and implementation

• Help set broad direction and vision, influence engineering and business strategy, and establish practices to efficiently and effectively address customer needs

• Guide and participate in critical technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across our various product, data science, operations, and engineering teams

• Oversee the success of your team's projects and deliver quantifiable results

• Examine problems facing our team and adjacent teams and invent new patterns and solutions for software development

• Experiment with new technologies and teach your peers how to leverage them in our work

• Embed with sibling teams to share knowledge and drive architectural change across the organization

• Collaborate closely with peer engineers, platform teams, product managers, and designers to develop and deploy software products

• Leverage architecture patterns and cloud technologies to deliver delightful experiences to our Sellers and our own teams

• Participate in ongoing training to maintain current knowledge of BSA/AML and perform BSA/AML duties as required

• Interest in working in backend and full stack development

Qualifications

You have:

• 11+ years of software engineering experience

• Interest in working on back-end systems, from APIs and business logic to optimizing databases, streams, and software engines

• Interest in modeling complex domains and building resilient systems to support high-throughput real world applications

• Excellent software development skills and architectural design skills

• Experience collaborating with product managers, data analysts, and other engineering and cross-functional leaders 

• Experience with machine learning and data applications

• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Go, Ruby, Java, Python)

• Knowledge of cloud concepts and systems (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)

• Relevant engineering experience in lending, finance, accounting, or similar domains
