Job Description
Square is looking for an experienced copyright and trademark attorney to join the intellectual property team and support TIDAL.
This unique and exciting role sits on the intellectual property side of the TIDAL music-business fence, providing legal and strategy support for music licensing and content production. You will also have broad responsibilities protecting the TIDAL brand (trademarks, domains, etc.) in 50+ countries and assisting with copyright and content-related enforcement, disputes, and litigation matters. You will report into IP Counsel.
You will:
Be the source of truth on local content licensing laws and practices in different jurisdictions around the world
Work with commercial and intellectual property attorneys on content licensing and production agreements with composers, songwriters, artists, producers, record companies, music publishers, influencers, videographers, and concert organizers
Help manage Tidal's copyright and trademark portfolio
Provide copyright and right of publicity clearance support for new content
Be the expert and support the litigation teams on all copyright and trademark disputes relating to Tidal
Manage DMCA complaints and other IP-based takedowns
Review marketing materials for compliance with intellectual property laws and licensing requirements
Assist and support product and engineering teams in connection with the launch of new product features and integrations
Educate product and legal teams on licensing and copyright laws
Advise on upcoming legislation and policy changes that affect the business, participate in copyright related advisory roles with legal and trade organizations
Qualifications
You have:
At least 6 years of relevant experience in law firms or in-house legal departments working on music and entertainment matters from an intellectual property perspective
At least 6 years of relevant experience in law firms or in-house legal departments with copyright and trademark prosecution, enforcement, counseling, and litigation
Experience recording artist agreements and content distribution and associated intellectual property matters
Expertise in copyright law and legal issues relating to music licensing and digital distribution
Experience with Google G-suite, Microsoft Office, intellectual property management systems, and project management tools
