    Job Description

    When our sellers make a sale, Square carries the balance in their Square account, and our Business Banking team builds the tools to make it all happen. With this suite of products, we ensure that our customers get access to the funds they need when they need them, and that they can always manage their cash flow. Partnering with platform and infrastructure teams, we move billions of dollars each year on behalf of our sellers.

    We’re looking for a product-minded Engineering Manager to join the team responsible for banking products including instant deposit, bill pay, and scheduled transfers. You would also guide exciting new developments so that we can launch new features, operate and scale our services, and boldly advocate for our customers. Sound like you? Read on.

    You will:

    • Hold your team to high engineering and operational standards and ensure that our customers’ funds are always available when they need them

    • Partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and business leads to establish your team’s vision and roadmap by thoroughly understanding your customers’ needs

    • Build products, systems, and services that will immediately benefit our customers and Square’s business

    • Build an outstanding team by hiring remarkable talent, coaching engineers, fostering engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to hold your team to high engineering standards

    • Participate in essential technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across the company

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    You have:

    • Relevant BA/BS degree or equivalent industry experience (5+ years preferred)

    • Experience collaborating with other engineering leaders and cross-functional team members

    • A background in software engineering and the ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance to your team

    Nice to have:

    • Experience holding a pager or participating in on-call procedures

    • Knowledge of payments or previous fintech experience

    Technologies we use and teach:

    • Java

    • Ember.js

    • RPC, REST APIs, Protobufs

    • MySQL
