Job Description

Our charter is to help sellers quickly checkout their buyers and accept any way they want to pay. We do this through payment features of the Point-of-Sale app but often work in multiple parts of the codebase and collaboration with several other teams. As part of the core payment experience between sellers and their customers, we have a significant impact on the success of Square. This role is for an Android engineer to join three other experienced Android engineers, developing new features to help our Sellers take payments from their customers.

As an Android Engineer on the team, you’ll need to:

• Be proficient in Java and/or Kotlin for development (we use both).
• Contribute to the engineering implementation of seller-facing projects, from conceptualization to rollout.
• Enjoy working on mobile apps at all levels – from networking to user interfaces and whatever’s in between.
• Build high availability and resilient systems that can accept and report payments regardless of network or device conditions.
• Collaborate with iOS, Android, and Server engineers to ship features.
• Work with product managers and designers to improve on and define product scope.
• Respond to customer feedback to improve our products.

Qualifications

You have:

• Experience developing mid to large-scale features.
• Experience with SDK or Framework development.
• Excellent software engineering knowledge and a product mindset.
• 2+ years of software development experience.
• A sense of customer empathy and an interest in influencing the product direction.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $152,100 - USD $185,900
Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700
Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300
Zone D: USD $129,300 - USD $158,100
