    DESCRIPTION

    The SENIOR REGULATORY DATA SCIENTIST serves as a dedicated data analyst leading new and ongoing data analysis initiatives within the Market Regulation department. Responsible for analyzing order, trade, and position data from Market Regulation's data warehouses and developing working solutions to augment and extend the department's analytical capabilities. Plays an important role in all phases of the system development lifecycle and assist in the design and specification of new regulatory data analysis solutions. Expected to become a subject matter expert with regard to regulatory data and the application of analytical concepts and visualizations for the purposes of identify order messaging and trading patterns and ensuring regulatory systems provide for effective tools.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Analyzing complex business and data analysis issues and identifying and proposing effective solutions and developing new, creative analytical methods and processes to mine the regulatory data warehouses and enhance order and trading pattern identification algorithms.

    • Creating and implementing new data visualizations using third party visualization tools.

    • Developing bespoke trade and order data analysis and functioning analytical prototypes based on staff requests using a combination of complex SQL, Excel, and technologies such as Python and R.

    • Identifying and reviewing new tools and technologies, including machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis, that can be leveraged to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of regulatory data analysis.

    • Instituting program specifications and prototypes into system design and requirement documents.

    • Performing thorough functional testing of regulatory applications to ensure the implementation of accurate and defect free applications and algorithms that adhere to the defined requirements.

    • Working closely with business users to elicit, define, and document detailed business requirements and data analysis specifications that fully capture business processes and accurately define required functionality.

    SKILLS & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Candidates are required to have programming experience and a strong understanding of SQL and database concepts, a working knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, R, VBA, Perl, SAS, or Mathematica, along with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel. Preferred candidates would also have experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or D3 and an understanding of machine learning and statistical analysis.
