    In accordance with the Credit Union’s policies and procedures, the Commercial Banking Officer I (CBO) is a junior underwriting position. This person must have experience in credit analysis, including spreading of financials, market research and assessing risk ratings.  CBO I will be responsible to underwriter small business loans, business credit cards, and participation purchases. This position will also assist the portfolio managers in annual loan reviews, prepare the Paycheck Protection Program loans to submit to the SBA for loan forgiveness.  The CBO I may maintain a small portfolio of participation loans and small business loans.  This person must be able to work independently under the supervision of the CBO III.

    WHO YOU ARE: 

    • Minimum five (2) of commercial lending and underwriting experience, including loan review and commercial and retail collections. Also requires a working knowledge of loan restructures and collections, bankruptcy and foreclosure laws, along with a general understanding of legal proceedings. 
    • Bachler degree, or equivalent, from a 4-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar field. Certificate in commercial lending and financial analysis a plus.
    • Ability to independently assess and analyze complex loan proposals, structures and financial statements 
    • Makes recommendations based on analysis derived and deducted from a solid understanding of credit risk
    • Working knowledge of financial products/services and loan policies/products
    • Knowledge of related laws and regulations
    • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet skills
    • Recognizes financial trends and patterns
    • Be detail oriented and organized
    • Lending analysis software skills
    • Ability to maintain proper credit file documentation
    • Ability to communicate and understand written and oral language
    • Ability to effectively and clearly present complex commercial lending and credit risk related information to targeted audience
    • Displays openness to others’ viewpoints and constructive criticisms
    • Displays ability to follow instructions; especially the complex ones
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
    • Ability to make sound judgments with a minimum guidance
    • Meets performance objectives based on goals, mission and values
    • Synthesizes financial data into meaningful terms
    • Strong analytical and decision making skills
    • Ability to maintain existing profitable lending relationships
    • Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
    • Working knowledge of the following programs is a plus
      1. Fiserv
      2. Bukers Tax Analysis
      3. Financial Tools
      4. nCino
      5. Co-Star

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    • Spread financial statements, prepare cash flow analysis and risk ratings
    • Underwrite business credit cards, small business loans & participation loans.  Prepare and submit credit memo for approval
    • Determine loan documentation file is complete and properly executed to ensure enforceability and ensure proper lien position
    • Independently and accurately prepare annual loan reviews for portfolio managers
    • Assist in projects undertaken by Credit Administration team
    • Complete market and collateral research and assess desktop valuation to collateral
    • Analyze and underwrite more complex credit request and memos for approval. Present deals to committee when necessary. Research market conditions and proper due diligence on all loan requests.
    • Assist in processing loans for closing
    • Understands and stays abreast of changes to SFCU Policy, Procedures, NCUA, Federal and State Regulations as it pertains to Credit Unions as well as BSA laws and regulation applicable to area of responsibility.
    • Maintains current knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends that may affect the Credit Union’s business loans.
