JOB DESCRIPTION:
LOCATION: San Diego, San Francisco, OR Boston
HYBRID: 1-2 days per week in one of the offices listed above.
The Investor Coverage & Business Development team is responsible for leading engagement with the venture capital firms, corporate investors, growth equity firms and emerging managers who are helping drive innovation forward. Embedded within the broader Investor Coverage and Business Development org, the Corporate Venture Capital and Growth Equity Investor coverage team is spearheading connectivity with influential growth equity investors and Fortune 1000+ companies who have the ability to drive immense value for SVB’s commercial clients by way of investments, partnerships, pilots, and acquisition opportunities.
Our team is passionate about the critical role we play as strategic partners, advisors, and advocates for our investor relationships as well as our role in delivering meaningful insights and connections to the companies we work with and banking teams we support. To maximize the value we can deliver, our team is segmented by vertical with team leads who cover enterprise software, consumer technology, frontier technology, climate technology and life sciences and healthcare. We are looking for an individual who is eager to garner insights and experience supporting each of these verticals with particular exposure to life sciences and healthcare.
An Internship with the team would look to provide the candidate with a wide array of responsibilities , designed to broaden their understanding of the role that Corporates and Growth equity investors play in the innovation ecosystem and provide a balance of client-facing opportunity, data analysis, and team support. Key areas of work would include:
CORPORATE & GROWTH EQUITY FIRM ENGAGEMENT
Play a key supportive role in the management of how regularly we engage with our Investor relationships
Assisting with meeting preparation, execution, reporting and actionable follow-up items
Build/develop processes to ensure that that all meaningful data and insight is captured, processed, and distributed to relevant stakeholders effectively.
ANALYTICAL WORK
Ad-hoc data analytics & research tasks to support team projects
Create/ maintain data on Corporate venture/innovation activity
Support data investigation and creation of research, analytics, and briefings
Project Support
Content creation (Sector insights, industry-specific reports, blog posts)
Event planning and execution (webinars, roundtables, pitch-events)
Investment/M&A scouting exercises
SPECIFIC DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support production of internal newsletter “CVC Weekly Recap”
Preparation for external meetings, including portfolio research, market share analysis, deal sourcing
Support OneSVB initiative and help team refine understanding of applicable key offerings from different business units to drive collaborative ‘wins’ with our banking partners.
Help drive forward investor ‘ sprints’ and aggregating insights.
Help with inputting and managing ongoing data compliance for tracking of team’s annual OKR’s
Active participation in internal meetings, shadowing both D/MDs and Associates
Attend and support local client events
SPECIAL PROJECTS:
Market mapping of non-traditional investor landscape for AI (examining applications across sectors and biggest opportunities within life sciences & healthcare, enterprise technology, consumer, frontier tech, fintech etc. ) and/or leveraging public and proprietary data to produce market mapping of the most active and influential VC’s in each vertical.
Helping update the Life Science and Healthcare Investor Investment & M&A Coverage Tracker
Helping create a new Corporate VC fund tracker and streamlined repeatable process that will track new corporate fund announcements and investment pace within our coverage universe on a quarterly basis (helping monitor activity/relevance of new funds that could warrant formal coverage ) .
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be students currently enrolled in a four-year college/university
Candidates should have a minimum GPA of 3.2
Seeking the following Majors: Business or Liberal Arts (open to all majors, preference for social sciences (economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, history) with a quantitative focus ( e.g History major with Math Minor)
Preferred candidates should have : Interest in venture capital, technology and /or life sciences & healthcare sectors . Bonus i f student has basic accounting/business background and is proficient in PowerPoint and Excel.
BASE PAY:
$18.00 - $31.00
Actual starting base pay will be determined on skills, experience, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. Total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other perks, as outlined in any formal offer made.
