    Job Description

    An intern should expect to contribute individually and/or as a team member to support a designated trading functional area, analyze business processes, and work towards goals and objectives assigned by experienced managers and directors. Interns will also interact with a variety of business partners and participate in projects that directly impact business value.

    During the program, the intern will learn about the Ameriprise corporate structure and how the trading unit impacts other areas of the firm. The intern will participate in projects and processing that will generate meaningful work product through use of data analysis software, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.

    Responsibilities:

    • Learn about Ameriprise Financial Equity & Option Trading, Fixed Income Trading, Portfolios, Fixed Income Services, Trade Reporting, Processing, Securities Lending, Trade Corrections and Managed Account Servicing business units through assigned tasks designed to provide an introduction to the Trading units’ workflows.
    • Gain familiarity with the applications and tools used at Ameriprise to conduct day-to-day business.
    • Understand the business support and technological infrastructure necessary to operate the trading businesses.
    • Observe and participate in the following business unit daily processing.
    • Help build and evaluate client bond portfolios.
    • Support Principal traders with issuer data collection.
    • Assist stock loan with short sale locates, covering securities deficits, sending and receiving confirmations, and handling stock loan returns.
    • Assist with best execution reporting of equity and fixed income trades.
    • Be a resource for various projects within trading.
    • Support trade correction processing
    • Assist managed account servicing units.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Applicant must be a junior currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or economics.
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability.

    Preferred Qualifications

    This is an entry-level role requiring basic skills with a moderate level of proficiency. The intern will generally perform single-function tasks that tend to be of small to moderate size and scope. The intern will work under close supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment and consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience. This position typically does not require prior related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Displays excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrates strong computer proficiency including a good working knowledge of MS Office.
    • Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management skills while maintaining attention to detail.
    • Resourceful and proactive in gathering information and sharing ideas.
    • Enjoys non-routine daily activities.
