Corporate Sustainability Intern (Summer 2023) - Westchester, IL
The Ingredion Sustainability team is looking for highly motivated and dynamic college student to join the organization for an internship for the summer of 2023. The Corporate Sustainability Intern role will report directly to the Sr. Manager of Corporate Sustainability and will be primarily responsible for supporting Ingredion’s global human rights program and public sustainability commitments around human rights.
AS A CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY INTERN, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Support Ingredion’s public sustainability goal of auditing 100% of suppliers meeting high-risk criteria for human rights by the end of 2027
Develop action plans to ensure ISO 26000 is fully implemented by the end of 2023
Benchmark responsible sourcing programs and consolidate findings into a recommendation for how Ingredion can meet its public commitments to ensure transparency in its supply chain
Assist other functions, such as Procurement and Compliance, in creating and implementing responsible sourcing processes
Develop a global database to track our suppliers who are registered in the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex) platform
Support Procurement and Compliance with developing a risk management framework to identify high risk suppliers to target for auditing
Assist with developing and leading external supplier trainings and webinars to educate suppliers on Ingredion’s responsible sourcing program
Build a repository of human rights related documents and policies for Ingredion to reference when applying for sustainability certifications and credentials
Expand upon repository to respond to and improve Ingredion’s ESG score in external ESG rankings such as EcoVadis
Support customer requests for SMETA (Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit) audits
Assist Ingredion operations teams with developing best practices for SMETA audits, including building out a resource hub to consolidate Sedex trainings and documents
Develop and support implementation of new internal business processes that can help Ingredion respond faster and more effectively to customer and investor sustainability requests
Track customer human rights agendas or strategies and identify areas for Ingredion to enhance documentation or communications around high areas of interest, particularly those that might drive competitive differentiation
Support the corporate Sustainability department in a variety of activity related to our sustainability strategy. Cross-train with other members of the team to drive professional development and strengthen ability to perform primary functions
THE CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY INTERN POSITION IS WELL SUITED FOR YOU IF YOU:
Have strong interpersonal skills to be able to collaborate with internal stakeholders to create processes aligned with multiple initiatives or requirements
Are able to communicate clearly and concisely, particularly in external communications with customers
Have strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Have the ability to work independently to drive strategic deliverables
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
Progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, political science / public policy, business, marketing, supply chain / logistics, or related field
Strong interest in general sustainability topics, standards, and leading practices;
Strong project management skills;
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills preferred
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Be a currently enrolled student in a Bachelor’s Degree Program. If currently enrolled in an undergrad status, must have completed at least two years of coursework with status as a sophomore, junior or non-graduating senior.
