  • Responsibilities

    Ingredion has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated student to join our Health, Safety, & Environmental Team. In this Co-Op position, you will assist the Indianapolis facility in one of our specific operations units. You will be responsible for day-to-day safety concerns and activities, management of 4 - 5 site wide safety programs and will be assigned EHS related projects to manage.

    As a Health, Safety & Environmental Co-Op, your responsibilities will include:

    Safety Program/Process Stewardship

    • Lead safety training in the assigned operations unit
    • Review and update existing safety programs looking for continuous improvement ideas and developing new safety programs based on corporate standard

    Metrics & Incident Management

    • Interpret operations unit safety metrics trends to area leadership
    • Report on Safety Observations weekly
    • Lead investigations of safety incidents and injuries within the operations unit and lead Near Miss meeting (monthly)

     

    Customer Safety Support

    • Participate in Operations Unit T2 meeting (daily) and in Safety T2 meeting (M, W, F)

     

    Safety Culture & Injury Prevention

    • Complete a Behavior-Based Safety Observation (weekly)  and in GEMBA walks (weekly)
    • Engage workforce in Behavior-based safety observations
    • Coordinate/Facilitate JSAs as needed

     

    Compliance Improvement and Oversight

    • Review and Track Department Safety Inspections (Monthly) 
    • Active permit Inspection (daily) 
    • Facilitate annual LOTO assessments, annual Powered Industrial Truck assessments, personal fall equipment inspections, and IH monitoring (noise, dust, chemical) for unit 
    • Participate in Dust Hazard Analysis and maintain combustible dust handling equipment list

      

    Development

    • Participate in various trainings: Fall protection inspector training, JSA facilitator training, Emergency Response team training 
    • Facilitate Toolbox Talk for leadership team (weekly), plan & facilitate hands-on ERT training sessions, and facilitate Permit training

    Lead and Coordinate Projects

    • Develop and implement solutions for department-specific safety issues 
    • Implement solutions for JSA findings
    • Label piping

    The Health, Safety & Environmental Co-Op position is well suited for you if you:

  • Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will have:

    • Progress towards a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Environmental, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 preferred
    • Ability to work 40hrs per week during the co-op term (May – Dec 2022)
    • An assertive, creative, and ambitious personality 
    • Demonstrated analytical prioritization skills with developed time management and multi-tasking skills
    • PC skilled with word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet experience
    • Reliable transportation is required to get to and from the facility each workday

    To be eligible for consideration, candidates must:

    • Currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Ingredion does not intend to sponsor work visas with respect to this position or to provide this position as OPT or CPT.
    • Be a currently enrolled student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD Degree Program. If currently enrolled in an undergrad status, must have completed at least two years of coursework with status as a sophomore, junior or non-graduating senior.
