    As an undergraduate Technology intern, you will be stretched to build on your existing knowledge, challenged to maximize your learning agility, and positioned to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to your team. In this role, you'll be responsible for inventing, executing, and perfecting digital products across our three platforms: iOS, Android, and the Web. You work end-to-end cross functionally moving ideas into real, viable experiences. You understand complex business and user needs and distill them into simple features and flows, using data to inform any decision. You’re a fierce advocate for the Starbucks customer. You’ve got an instinctive sense of focused and clean design. You’re passionate about good design from function to form. You love typography. You understand visual hierarchy and the ways to best optimize what’s visually presented to the customer at any given time. Below is a summary of possible responsibilities:

    • Work independently on a product team focused on a major customer-facing features and be able to communicate rationale, background for your decisions.
    • Collaborate with product management to define features and how they map back to customer and business need.
    • Contribute to prioritization of work and projects.
    • Work with other product designers to receive and provide feedback and critique.
    • Work with data scientists and user researchers to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of your work.
    • Work quickly and effectively on multiple projects. Ship brand new features, bug fixes on existing features, and small improvements responding to customer need.
    • Design interactions for new features, applying existing design patterns and creating new ones, across our platforms.
    • Build and prototype what you design using a variety of web front-end internal tools as well as native prototyping tools.
    • Collaborative and innovative with a great sense of humor.

    Starbucks Technology internships are paid, 10-week assignments at the Starbucks Support Center in Seattle, WA (our corporate headquarters). Each student selected for a Starbucks internship may be considered for full-time career openings upon completion of a Bachelor’s degree program.

  • Qualifications

    WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM STUDENTS WHO HAVE: 

    • Ability to communicate conceptual ideas, design rationale and design details both verbally and visually.
    • Experience working in a product organization, driving design from planning to release over multiple releases, designing for iOS, Android, and Web.
    • Experience working closely with developers to iterate to a point of functionality then to a point of pixel perfection
    • Exposure to professional design, all facets of human-centered design and user experience, spanning UX strategy, experience/interaction design, user research/assessment, prototyping, visual design, and user adoption.
    • Demonstrated visual design skill, especially in the construction of visual hierarchies on layouts, and attention to detail on typography, spacing, and colors.
    • On top of the latest digital trends and process methodologies.
    • Comfort with common front-end / UI technologies with interest to learn more.
    • Experience with Sketch or prototyping tools such as Principle or Framer is a plus.

     

    INTERNSHIP PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Active enrollment in an accredited undergraduate Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, UX Web Design, or equivalent program
    • Anticipated graduation with a Bachelor's degree between December 2019 and August 2020.
    • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0
