    JOB SUMMARY AND MISSION

    Starbucks is seeking a highly skilled and motivated accountant II to join the Global Supply Chain – Inventory and COGs team.  The inventory and COGs accounting team's main responsibilities include: the accounting for finished goods inventory in distribution centers and retail stores, pricing, oversight of inventory counts and cost of goods sold (COGs) analysis. This position is integral to Starbucks success by ensuring the accurate and timely completion of moderately complex accounting functions, supporting key internal controls, maintaining one or a combination of accounting, budget or cost systems and preparing financial reports and analyses. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles and values.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

    • Sets up and maintains accounting records.  Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations that are accurate and compliant with company policies and applicable accounting principles. 
    • Produces financial statements and other reports and reviews for accuracy.  Prepares accurate and timely financial reports for assigned business unit(s) or department(s) to support company accounting, reporting and forecasting cycles.  Performs trend analysis.
    • Assists in maintaining various systems and processes in area of responsibility.  Creates and maintains documentation on processes and procedures while providing ongoing process improvements recommendations.
    • Responds to pricing inquiries. May troubleshoot system related issues and provide ad hoc reporting or analysis.
    • Supports forecasting and budget development processes as needed.  Researches and responds to questions from customers.
    • Effectively produces ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business operational, financial and strategic decisions.
    • Highlights issues and may recommend alternative courses of action based upon results of analysis.
    • Participates in and provides support to cross-functional teams.  Conducts analyses as needed to support project objectives. Participates in other projects and assignments as needed to support the goals of the department. Informs management of progress and roadblocks.
  • Qualifications

     

    SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE 

    • 2+ years experience in accounting at a professional level, including journal entries, account reconciliation, reporting and analysis or equivalent experience.

    • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.

    • Experience in cost accounting preferred.

    • Experience using an ERP system preferred.

    • CPA preferred.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree required.

    • Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting focused role.

    • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.

    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non accounting customers at various levels of the organization.

    • Ability to effectively engage cross functionally at various levels of the organization.

    • Understanding of US GAAP and internal controls.

    • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment, while exhibiting exceptional attention to detail and continuously driving process improvements.

    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.

    • Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools.

    • Ability to work independently.

    • Displays initiative and has the ability to improve processes and document work performed.
