As a Starbucks corporate counsel – Labor & Employment, you will play an integral role in helping a complex, fast-paced organization in a rapidly changing environment adhere to its mission and values by ensuring that we properly maintain compliance with employment laws, assess risk balanced with business objectives, offer solutions, hold each other accountable and treat partners with respect and dignity. You will be responsible for identifying how changes in federal, state and local laws require changes to our policies and practices and working with clients to implement solutions (for example, laws relating to scheduling, wage & hour, paid leave and training requirements.) You will support multiple client groups, with a focus on company operated retail stores in the United States. You will use your judgment and experience to counsel our Partner Resources (HR) Organization and retail leaders at varying levels on wage & hour compliance, workplace accommodations, protected leave, claims of harassment, discrimination and retaliation, and compliance with federal, state and local labor and employment laws and regulations. You will direct and oversee investigations alleging unlawful employment actions. You will work with and oversee outside counsel to defend employment lawsuits and agency charges filed against the company as well as manage some general litigation matters in response to customer claims. Experience advising retail businesses is a plus but is not required.
