    JOB SUMMARY AND MISSION 

    This job contributes to Starbucks success by planning and executing assigned projects related to the development of packaging and packaging systems that supports the successful execution of company initiatives. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

    • Participates in the development and commercialization phase of projects by designing, developing, and/or specifying packaging.  Assists with the development of initial cost of goods, packaging, labeling and required certifications. Ensures that packaging and systems have met initial quality assurance, safety and risk assessment requirements. 
    • Gathers, analyzes and maintains packaging trend information and conducts idea generation sessions to initiate creation of new packaging products. Works with leadership to establishes key technical performance indicators and measurements to ensure progress to commercialization and implementation consistent with project timelines. May identify potential suppliers. Maintains project file and documents intellectual property.  
    • Provides technical input to clarify project requirements around packaging and pack systems.  Prepares project plans for approval, prioritization and allocation of technical resources. May develops some work plans and timelines. May manage project information flow and act as the key project liaison between the cross-functional team and Research & Development and Quality.  
    • Supports the start-up and implementation of the packaging as required. Revises technical information in the specifications. Transitions project to Supply Chain Operations (SCO) and works with the SCO organization on sourcing and development of packaging. Provides ongoing technical improvements and testing.

    • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
    • Project management skills, including measurement, reporting and financial analysis
    • Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project
    • Knowledge and application of engineering principles
    • Knowledge of technical engineering design, development, certifications and standards
    • Understanding of food microbiology
