Potential intern projects with OEM include: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Developing GIS layers and maps Attending local and regional workgroup meetings Analyzing data related to natural hazards, social vulnerability, and critical infrastructure Critical Infrastructure/Key Resources Assist in assessing and documenting critical assets Learn new methodology to improve infrastructure resiliency Most work will be office based with occasional offsite travel to meetings, events, or assessments. ABOUT YOU Required Education : Currently enrolled in a degree program (graduate or undergraduate) in Emergency Management, Geography, Homeland Security, Public Affairs, Urban Planning, Information Technology or other related fields. Our ideal intern will have the following skills: Dependability GIS and mapping experience with ArcGIS is required Ability to work independently Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Strong written and oral communications skills Ability to interact in a professional manner with all staff. Ability to apply sound reasoning and decision-making. Ability to operate computers and commonly used computer software programs, as well as any other standard office equipment as required by position. Duties GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) leads the City of Centennial and Arapahoe County's efforts to prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from natural or man-made disasters. Office of Emergency Management (OEM) seeks an intern to support projects that involve Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Critical Infrastructure assessment. Interns will be assigned to an OEM staff member for mentoring based on their skill set and project interests. This internship will develop important connections in both the public and private sectors, and provide the successful candidate with marketable skills and real-world experience. Ideally, this is designed as a full year internship, however the OEM is open to shorter durations based on the needs of the degree program and student. Please note, this internship is unpaid. Requirements APPLICANT DISQUALIFICATION FACTORS: Applicants are advised that areas for disqualification from further consideration include, but are not limited to, the following: Illegal Drug Use.
