available for the July - September time). The Arapahoe County Sheriff's
Office, Investigation Services seeks an intern to support numerous
projects. The Criminal Investigation Intern is a qualified undergraduate
or graduate student (all majors welcome) with an interest in learning
about the criminal justice system. The goal of the internship is to
provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the function
and work of law enforcement from the perspective of the Criminal
Investigations Section. Under general supervision of an Investigations
Section POST Certified Investigator, this position will perform a
variety of administrative and operational duties in support of the
Sheriff's Office operations. Administrative and operational duties may
include case follow-up, writing Supplement reports, reviewing
transcriptions and assist in reviewing audio, visual evidence,
cataloging and other similar tasks as directed by a POST Certified
Investigator. This position will assist with routine, non-hazardous law
enforcement duties for which a deputy is not required. Investigations

ArapahoeSO? Duties EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duty
statements are illustrative of the essential function of the job and do
not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required:
- Assist with collection of records. * Transfer information to Arapahoe
County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) forms for approval by an investigator. *
Assist investigators with case follow-up. * Review cases and
transcripts. * Job shadow investigators. * Learn about the ACSO role in
the criminal justice system. * Learn about the criminal justice system
by attending trials on an as needed basis. * Assist investigators by
writing supplemental reports. * Conduct special studies and projects at
the direction of Sheriff's Office Staff. * Assist deputies or
criminalists with the packaging and storage of evidence. * Operates
computers and standard office equipment including commonly used computer
software programs. * Performs routine office tasks such as preparing
recurring reports, typing, filing, faxing and photocopying. * Maintains
regular and acceptable attendance at such level as determined at the
Sheriff's Office discretion. * Interacts effectively with others. *
Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES: * Dependability. * Ability to work independently. * Knowledge
of rules of evidence. * Ability to operate computers and commonly used
computer software programs, as well as any other standard office
equipment as required by position. * Ability to apply sound reasoning
and decision-making. * Ability to interact in a professional manner with
all staff. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with Sheriff's Office personnel, internal/external
vendors, other law enforcement officials and the general public. *
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
Requirements REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS: The screening process for any
position within the Sheriff's Office may include written test(s), an
oral interview, skills test(s) and/or other selection methods designed
to measure applicants' ability to perform the essential functions of the
job they are seeking. The required tests include: * Polygraph Exam *
Background Investigation This will include, but is not limited to
contact with the applicant's former employers, associates, neighbors and
other pertinent sources. Applicant's military history, school records,
police records and driving record will also be investigated. All
examinations are conducted by qualified/licensed individuals designated
by the Sheriff's Office at the Sheriff's Office expense. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in a degree program
(graduate or undergraduate) in Criminal Justice, Criminology,
Corrections, Social Work, Paralegal, Psychology or other related fields
(other majors accepted on case by case basis). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The
following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this
position. They are included for informational purposes and are not
all-inclusive. Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time. Constantly:
Activity exist more than 2/3 of the time. * Occasional use of eye, hand
and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery,
and writing utensils. * Constantly involved in oral and auditory
interaction, enabling interpersonal communication, including automated
devices such as the telephone and radio. * Spends 70% of the time
sitting, and 30% either standing or walking while on the job. *
Occasionally pushes, pulls, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches,
reaches, handles, and feels. * Frequently uses visual capacity including
depth perception and peripheral vision enabling completion of required
field and office duties. * Occasionally lifts or carries up to 20 lbs.
when moving office supplies, files, evidence or found property.
JOB-RELATED CONTACTS: Contacts generally include Sheriff's Office staff,
other governmental agencies and the public. Information given and
received is often of a critical and confidential nature. WORK
ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed to a standard office setting
with occasions that may require driving in non-emergent situations.
BIOHAZARD NOTICE: This position has been determined to be a MINIMAL
exposure risk to "biohazards" associated with blood-borne pathogens HIV
(aids), HBV (hepatitis B) virus, and airborne transmissions of TB
(tuberculosis). Members are advised that exposure to a "biohazard" may

to use protective equipment and clothing. Inoculation may be required to
