  • Responsibilities

    The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) is the statewide professional association for physicians and medical students, supporting 25,000 members. We are dedicated to educating and advocating for the physicians of Massachusetts and patients locally and nationally. A leadership voice in health care, the MMS contributes physician and patient perspectives to influence health-related legislation at the state and federal levels, works in support of public health, provides expert advice on physician practice management, and addresses issues of physician well-being. Under the auspices of the NEJM Group, the MMS extends our mission globally by advancing medical knowledge from research to patient care through the New England Journal of Medicine, NEJM Catalyst, and the NEJM Journal Watch family of specialty publications, and through our education products for health care professionals: NEJM Knowledge+, NEJM Resident 360, and our accredited and comprehensive continuing medical education programs.

     

    The EDITORIAL SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR works closely with the Managing Editor, NEJM Knowledge+, and is responsible for the formatting, copyediting, proofreading, production workflows, and production of all NEJM Knowledge+ content. She/He/They oversees development and implementation of content management strategies, recommends best practices for editorial and production workflows, and works collaboratively with our tech partners to improve the content management systems. The Editorial Systems Administrator works closely with product manager and staff to ensure that all digital products and content are produced on time and correctly. Requires intimate knowledge of the content and content structure -- and is the critical bridge between editorial and the product side.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

     

    • Oversee the entry of new content into content management system and ensure that the content has the correct metadata; create, maintain, and refine the editorial production timelines.

    • Troubleshoot, report, track, and resolve bugs in the content management systems; collaborate with editors and reviewers to determine workflow improvements; and enter, track, and verify fixes using project management software.

    • Train reviewers within the system; answer technical questions, help with user errors, notify users of new functionality, and update the system with workflow changes.

    • Manage all metadata.

    • Supervise the content export back into NEJM Group content repository each month, and serve as the liaison to the NEJM Group content systems team.

    • Copyedit and proofread content as needed.

    • Prepare images and other media for production

    • Bundle content together and deliver to appropriate designee for test panels, accreditation, sponsorships, or live production into various products.

    • Working with Education Editor, select and publish Question of the Week.

    • Manage the Challenge Us feature by reviewing feedback (“challenges”) submitted by learners, fixing any typos or other small errors, and sending the remainder to appropriate experts for assessment.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • A BA or a BS and at least 3-5 years’ experience with copyediting, proofreading, and content management.
    • A demonstrated ability to create and manage complex editorial production processes and content management and is a must.
    • Candidates must be self-starters who can be highly proactive while also being strong team players.
    • Excellent editorial judgment also is required.
