Job Description
Under general supervision, performs journey-level skilled work in connection with the maintenance, repair, overhaul, removal, replacement and adjustment of the exterior and interior bodies of a wide variety of equipment including automotive and transit equipment. Performs other related duties as required. This is a journey-level worker position in the Automotive Body and Fender Worker series.

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code and are not intended to be an inclusive list:
_ Nature of Work_ : Requires considerable physical effort and manual dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body. May involve possible exposure to dust and chemical fumes that require wearing a respirator. Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous materials. Requires incumbents to work with body and fender tools such as Oxyacetylene/MIG welding equipment. May be required to work different shifts and perform basic computer skills (i.e. data entry, work order completion, etc.).
Qualifications
These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. ** Education** :
Possession of a high school diploma, GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate
** Experience** :
Six (6) years of full-time verifiable work experience as an automotive body and fender worker, of which two (2) years must have been at journey-level
** License and Certification** :
Possession of a valid class C driver license.
Substitution :
Completion of the CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards recognized Automotive Body and Fender apprenticeship program with the City and County of San Francisco as evidenced by issuance of a Certificate of Completion of the City’s apprenticeship program under the appropriate authority will substitute for the six (6) years combined work experience.

_ Written_ Multiple-Choice Examination (We ig ht - 100%) : Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas that may include but not be limited to: knowledge of auto body and fender principles; knowledge of safety and hazardous material procedures; knowledge of composition, characteristics, and uses of commonly used machine shop metals and materials; and ability to use tools and equipment.
This is a standardized examination and, therefore, test questions and test answers are not available for public inspection or review. For your reference, a Multiple-Choice Test Preparation Manual is available on the DHR Website: here .
_ Eligibility List/Score Report_ :
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 24 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

** Medical** ** __****Examination/Drug Testing:** Candidates who are being considered for appointment may be required to pass a medical examination.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 7306 Automotive Body & Fender Worker is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance: Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to provide a complete employment history for the past ten (10) years and an explanation of all gaps in employment during that period. The past ten (10) years of the candidate's employment will be verified. In addition, candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history check, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
Customs Clearance: This position may require that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the San Francisco International Airport U.S. Customs Security Area. An application for a U.S. Custom Access Seal may be submitted to Customs ONLY after employment has commenced. Employment in this position requires that the incumbent submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a Customs Access Seal. Per Civil Service Commission Rule 110.9.1, every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for this examination. Failure to acquire or maintain customs access, a requirement for this position, may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission. Customs Access Seal requirements and procedures are located in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 19, Part 122, Sections 181 or 189.
Background Investigation: Positions with the San Francisco Airport Commission that require security clearance prior to employment may be required to have a thorough background investigation to determine the candidate’s suitability for employment. The investigation includes a search into records held by the criminal justice system, credit reporting agencies, the Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as contact with references, employers, and others who have knowledge of the candidate. Reasons for rejection based on this investigation may include, but not be limited to: applicable convictions, repeated or serious violations of the law, use of controlled substances and alcohol, inability to work well with co-workers, inability to accept supervision, inability to follow rules and regulations, falsification of application materials, and/or other relevant factors. Candidates may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening and must clear Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting. The background investigation will also meet Transportation Security Administration requirements (TSA Section 1542.209).
