    Engineer Intern (PAID) - Surface Water Program Salary $24.99 - $39.88 Hourly Location Plantation, FL Job Type Full Time Department Environmental Engineering/Permitting Division Job Number 1403924 Closing Continuous REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineer Intern in the Environmental Engineering and Permitting Division. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Reviews Surface Water Management license and the Environmental Resource permit application packages for new projects and modifications to existing sites, which include engineering construction plans, surveys, geo-technical reports, calculations (required/provided water quality, runoff, stage/storage, and discharge computations), surface water modeling reports, and legal documentation against County and State codes, rules, and regulations. Prepares technical review comments and requests additional information from engineers and property owners for revisions to calculations and plans; prepares technical reports with project specific information, license conditions, engineering data, and calculation summaries. Reviews engineering construction certifications and surveyed plans for compliance with County and State codes; performs site inspections for construction compliance and identify deficiencies in inspection reports; processes five-year renewals of surface water management licenses; issues appropriate warnings, notices of violation, and/or other enforcement actions, as warranted, against respondents with non-compliance issues and/or violations cited; participates in hearings concerning violations of federal, state and local laws. Communicates with developers, attorneys, engineers, banks, and the general public for the purpose of reviewing construction plans and specifications and the issuance of permits; performs research to respond to queries and complaints. Reviews permit applications and contractor licenses for accuracy and validity; upon determination that the information is accurate, enters into the County's database and construction permits are thereafter issued. May review plans for compliance with County and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards and specifications. Stay abreast of current surface water management technology and EPA, State, and local regulations. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in an engineering field related to the area of assignment. Special Certifications and Licenses: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification may be required based on area of assignment. Preferences: Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering Master's Degree in civil engineering or related field 2nd Master's or PHD degree in separate but relevant discipline. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification Professional Engineer (PE) license One year experience in design, construction, and operation of surface water management facilities One year experience in surface water modeling experience is also required (ICPR, Cascade, SWMM, RC4) Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification OSHA Certification Project Management Professional (PMP) Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) 6 months experience in POSSE 1 year experience in State database systems (STCM, SWIFT, PA, WACS, Asbestos, ARMS or Aircom) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Provides engineering support in the design and review of a wide variety of engineering projects. Collects and processes engineering related data; prepares project scope of work, schedule, and design; performs geographical information system (GIS) analysis, produces maps, and maintains Geo-databases.
