    Intern- Humanitarian Agenda (Fall 2018) Center For Strategic And International Studies 20 reviews - Washington, DC Full-time, Internship The CSIS Humanitarian Agenda provides long-term, strategic guidance to policy makers to ensure that U.S. foreign assistance programs are efficient, effective, and sustainable. The Humanitarian Agenda explores and highlights the changing landscape of humanitarian assistance in the 21st century. The program is a part of a unique partnership between CSIS and the U.S. Agency for International Developments (USAID) Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). By engaging and collaborating with thought leaders in Washington, DC and beyond, the project aims to increase the level of dialogue surrounding challenges to humanitarian assistance and to help develop both the policy solutions and political will to address them. Analyzing humanitarian access issues and creating a policy roadmap for the international and humanitarian community are important aspects of the projects goal to strengthen and sustain best practices in the sector. CSIS seeks a full-time Research Intern to provide research, writing, and administrative support to the Humanitarian Agenda. Research will focus on trends in humanitarian assistance in protracted conflicts, humanitarian access to populations in need, analytics on foreign assistance support, and international humanitarian policies and agreements. The Research Intern will also provide administrative support to the program as needed, including supporting private and public events to highlight humanitarian challenges. The project is looking to hire someone for September December of 2018. This is a paid position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: * Assist with monitoring trends in humanitarian assistance and access. * Conduct spot and background research. * Attend off-site events and meetings and compile notes to share with project staff. * Assist with the design and implementation of social media outreach plans, particularly leading the programs Twitter account. * Assist in event planning and staffing. * Provide general administrative support for project staff. KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: * Experience with qualitative analysis and writing. * Strong analytical and communication skills. * Demonstrated interest in humanitarian issues, international affairs, and international development. * Ability to work both independently and as a cohesive member of a small team. * Applicants must be at least a junior at an undergraduate institution. Preference will be given to those who have completed a bachelors degree in a related field such as international affairs, international development, political science, and other related subjects. * Must have at least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution. There is an opportunity to complete this internship for institutional credit. Performances of duties require the use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The job frequently requires ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
