    1572 Job Title: Planning/Code Compliance Intern Closing Date/Time: Fri. 03/30/18 5:00 PM Mountain Time Salary: $11.00 - $17.00 Hourly Job Type: TM Non-Benefited Location: 1 DesCombes Drive, Broomfield, Colorado Description Benefits Supplemental Questions The City and County of Broomfield is seeking a temporary summer intern to assist with Planning and Code Compliance in the Community Development Department. This position would be scheduled 20 hours per week from the end of May through early August 2018. The position is generally scheduled between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday - Friday with flexible hours as approved by the supervisor. This class consists of responsible work in the area of special projects and preparation of reports and materials which allows for hands-on experience in the assigned department. The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, agencies and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. Planning/Code Compliance: This summer seasonal position will provide assistance to the Code Compliance Division and the Planning Division during the busy summer season from May to September. The position will assist with research, code administration, site development plan analysis, and field visits along with other duties as assigned. Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties: (Persons hired in this position must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position. Examples of duties are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.) Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and county rules and regulations. Assists staff members in assigned area by compiling data from various sources, performing research and assisting with special projects. Prepares materials for reports and presentations to City Council, boards or commissions and citizens. Operates a personal computer and all required software. Operates a motor vehicle as required by the position. Operates all equipment as noted under Necessary Applicant Traits. Assists in identifying and recommending improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective; takes proper safety precautions; anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents; and uses all required safety equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Planning/Code Compliance: The position will primarily assist with research related to development plan approvals and current municipal code administration. Duties will also include analysis of Planned Unit Development Plans and Site Development Plans related to land use requirements and standards along with providing assistance in the land development review process. Limited field inspection of existing development or land proposed for future development may also be required. Minimum Qualifications: Training - Four-year college degree, college degree in process or graduate student in area relevant to assigned. For position assigned to Planning and Code Compliance, enrollment and completion of at least one semester of coursework in the graduate level Urban and Regional Planning program. Experience Some classwork in urban planning preferred. OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, driving record check, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI. Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate. Occasional photographic duties may require worker to utilize an automobile to reach a particular site to be photographed. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday. The employee is occasionally required to walk, talk or hear. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time). Tasks including data entry may require sitting at a computer for several hours.
