The primary focus of our office is to provide comprehensive legal representation and services to defendants who are facing the possibility of jail for municipal ordinance and traffic violations. In operation since January, 2015, this office ensures that the City and County of Denver is on the same level with other progressive municipalities by providing quality in-house Public Defense for indigent and homeless citizens. The Public Defenders report to the Chief Public Defender who reports directly to the Municipal Public Defender's Commission. Please take into consideration that The Public Defender's Office is open 7 days a week. As a Deputy Public Defender I, you will be required to work weekends as well as either early mornings beginning at 6:00 A.M. or, evenings until after 8:00 P.M. Schedules to be determined. The hiring range for this position is $58,768 - $60,000 Annually. About Our Job As a Deputy Public Defender you will... * Represent defendants in routine municipal ordinance and traffic cases. * Provide legal representation, advice, and consultation to defendants assigned to the Municipal Public Defender's Office. * Represent defendants at arraignments and for bond arguments. * Prepare routine pleadings, motions, orders, and other papers required for trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings. * Make motions for continuances, dismissals, reduction of bail, and new trials and represents defendants at numerous court hearings to include trials. * Interview defendants and witnesses to gather information in preparation for trial. * Assist higher level attorneys in the preparation and defense of more difficult cases. * Perform other duties as assigned.
