    Landscape Technician Location Parks and Recreation Work Status Full Time THIS POSITION WILL CLOSE ON 1/13/2019. SALARY: 11.43 - 14.29 Hourly USD JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision assists in the performance of all aspects of parks and/or golf maintenance tasks, makes minor repairs to irrigation systems and landscape tools and equipment, and aids in the installation and maintenance of landscape beds. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Ability to assist in the performance of all aspects of parks and/or golf maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming grass, weeding, irrigation repair, topdressing, aerating, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, etc. 2. Ability to make minor repairs to irrigation systems including head adjustments, replacements, preventative maintenance checks and line break repairs. 3. Ability to aid in the installation and maintenance of landscape beds which includes planting, irrigation, cultivating and weeding a wide variety of plants within an assigned area as well as pruning trees and shrubs. 4. Ability to operate, maintain and make minor adjustments to utility vehicle (golf carts), small mowers, edgers, blowers, weed eaters and hand held power tools. OTHER FUNCTIONS: 5. Ability to aid in the construction and repair of park facilities such as buildings, shelters, concrete/asphalt surfaces. Lighting systems and playgrounds. 6. Ability to prepare and maintain records of work performed, fuel usage and equipment utilized. 7. Ability to prioritize own job assignments and coordinate work with the maintenance crews to ensure timely job completion. 8. Ability to assist in the performance of special projects to enhance park or golf sites such as irrigation installation, landscape construction and site preparation, turf establishment, etc. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: -Knowledge of basic principles, procedures, tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work. -Ability to aid in the maintenance of turf grasses used on athletic fields, golf courses and building landscapes. -Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments on irrigation systems. -Ability to assist in the installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, ground covers and flowers. -Ability to assist in the repair and construction of park facilities such as shelters, buildings and playgrounds. -Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds; and push/pull 25 lbs. for 12 feet. -Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes of weather and temperature. -Ability to work a flexible work schedule. -Ability to receive detailed information through oral and written instructions. -Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to seeing, stooping, twisting body, carrying and lifting, cleaning, writing and climbing to and from extreme heights. -Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to specialized golf course equipment, tractors, out-front mowers, edgers, chain saws, etc. -Ability to operate a motorized vehicle. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School Education and six months experience in lawn care, maintenance or construction. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C. Pre-placement physical includes drug and alcohol testing. Motor vehicle review (MVR) is required.
