    Job Details Job Title Internship City of Charlotte/Charlotte Water-Pipeline Academy Job ID 501522 Location City of Charlotte Full/Part Time Regular/Temporary Temporary Close Date 11/04/2018 ------------ CoC Job Details Charlotte Water is currently accepting applications for the Pipeline Academy Program. This internship will include hands on experience, classroom learning, and exposure to the water and wastewater industry. The intern must be able to commit to the full seven-month assignment and be available to work a designated weekly/hourly schedule. Within the following divisions, interns will rotate between the identified positions and gain job readiness skills. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Customer Service Division - Water Service Technician Major Duties to Be Learned: * How to perform comprehensive field inspection of the water meter, register/wiring, and transmitter. Interrogates transmitter to validate proper and accurate reading match with register. * Replacement of inoperable or malfunctioning meter and/or metering equipment. * Read maps, navigate and follow routes in and out of metro and rural roads. * Inspects water meter connections for leaks and replaces material as needed to repair leaks. Customer/Revenue Service Assistant (Pre-Billing) Major Duties to Be Learned: * Perform detailed review and analysis of commercial and industrial water services that include multiple meters, private deduction meters, fire line services and irrigation. * Generate work orders for the field customer service personnel to investigate water services and metering equipment for performance and operational compliance. * Analyze the causes of zero consumption by seasonal variances, conformance of metering equipment, inactive accounts and residency vacancies. * Perform pre-bill consumption adjustments and refers any monetary post-billing adjustments to appropriate departments. Lift Station and Water/Wastewater Treatment Divisions - Treatment Plant Mechanic Major Duties to Be Learned: * Perform tests to determine operating efficiency of equipment, documents readings, and prepares reports. * How to read blueprints, manuals, and specifications for troubleshooting work. * Perform skilled level work in all areas of preventative maintenance, repair. * How to troubleshoot on process equipment found in wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, and sewage pumping stations. Physical Requirements Include: * Work in confined spaces up to forty feet below ground including wet wells. * Climb ladders, and work at heights of up to twenty feet high. Minimum Qualifications: High School Graduate or educational equivalent (i.e. GED); Valid Driver's License Salary Range: $12.00 hourly How to Apply: Apply online.
