The starting hiring amount will be between $14.49 and $16.49/hour. This position currently serves within the Mall & Corner Operations Section and will be engaged in a variety of maintenance responsibilities including, but not limited to collection of trash, sweeping of the mall, snow removal, paver resetting and minor electrical and plumbing repairs and improvements. This position will be heavily involved in special events support on the Mall and additional downtown venues. This position typically works on a crew and may be assigned to an area and supervise others on a day or project basis. When not performing mall and corner operations duties and responsibilities this position could be engaged in construction, facilities, landscape, mowing, equipment maintenance or other duties as assigned. The incumbent works primarily outside in all types of weather. This is a mission essential position and is subject to recall or extended work days on short notice and an overtime basis to address emergencies, repairs and engages in snow removal operations. The normal work week is Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, however this schedule can flex, and the position currently reports to the Mall Operations Supervisor and works out of the Parks Division's Melbourne Shop, 955 Melbourne Road, adjacent the CHS football stadium. Performs responsible semi-skilled work in a variety of construction, repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of specialized tools; occasionally operates specialized and other equipment in connection with the semi-skilled tasks to which assigned. Does related work as required. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for facilities, grounds and City infrastructure maintenance functions; May have a lead role or be responsible for construction and maintenance projects; Performs repairs and completes maintenance assignments; May be exposed to or required to use chemicals in general maintenance responsibilities; May serve in a lead role in skilled work and the use of hand tools and maintenance equipment; Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with custodial, construction and maintenance operations; Operates vehicles as required; Must have the willingness and flexibility to work as a member of one or several teams or independently to complete assigned tasks; Performs other duties as assigned. Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications: -Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. (If no diploma or GED is obtained, must have a minimum of 2 years of direct work experience in the field.) -Requires a minimum of 1 year experience in a similar position as a skilled worker in the maintenance, repair and or construction activity to which assigned; -Some prior experience in the operation of the equipment to which assigned. Special Requirements: - Must have valid VA driver's license by employment start date. Skills: General knowledge of the maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned; general knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work; general knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work. Skills in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to be contacted by phone in case of emergency. RETIREMENT: Pension: Choose from two options: A Defined Benefit Pension plan pays a monthly benefit in retirement using a defined formula based on the employee's earnings history, tenure of service, and age. Our plan has a 5 year vesting period and an employee contribution of 5% of salary. A Defined Contribution 401a plan in which fixed contributions are paid into an individual's account by the employer, the contributions are invested, returns (positive or negative) are credited to the account, and the account balance is used to provide retirement benefits. Our 401a plan has a 3 year vesting period and no required contribution from salary.
