Job The Denver Mayor's Office of Sustainability seeks unpaid, part-time
or full-time Interns for the summer of 2018. Interns will experience a
fast-paced, professional environment and will be given the opportunity
to witness first-hand, the internal operations of the mayor's office of
a major city. While assisting the Office of Sustainability in achieving
the City's 2020 Sustainability Goals and establishing sustainability as
a core business value of the City. The City's 2020 Sustainability Goals,

(Download PDF reader). As an intern, you will be responsible for:
Assisting the office with a variety of tasks, from identifying and
vetting sustainability strategies and policies the city could pursue,
quantifying progress on set goals, to executing our annual summit and
supporting the subsequent outcomes. Specific tasks could include: *
Conducting research projects relating to emerging technologies,
policies, and practices utilized in other cities and institutions that
would inform sustainability policy and practices within the City. *
Assisting with Office of Sustainability efforts to achieve the 2020
Sustainability Goals through stakeholder management,
quantification/tracking of the goals, or identification of strategies to
achieve the goals. * Assisting with Office of Sustainability efforts to
establish sustainability as a core business value of the city and
communicating it as a public value. This could include researching
organizational sustainability practices, developing training programs,
and developing media products including presentations for public events.
- Assisting with the planning of the Sustainable Denver Summit to be
held in December and its preceding Roundtables. For more information see

- Learning about Mayor Hancock and his sustainability initiatives,
Denver municipal government, and public service. * Other supportive
tasks as assigned. The mission of the Office of Sustainability is to
provide leadership, guidance, and coordination to city agencies in
Denver's pursuit of sustainability. Sustainability is defined by the
City as both an end result and a process of planning and operating that
provides for the needs of our people and businesses today without
impairing our ability to continue providing for their needs in the
future. About You Our ideal candidate will have/be: * Outstanding
research skills that go beyond mere Google searches and Wikipedia
look-ups. The intern should be comfortable with locating and reading the
original source material and interviewing people familiar with the
subject of the research. * Good analytical skills, critical thinking,
and sensitivity to the likelihood of opposing viewpoints, * Facility
with math and statistics, and diplomatic tenacity in the pursuit of
facts. * Excellent writing, proofreading, grammar, and spelling. *
Strong professionalism reflective of the Mayor's Office. * Proficiency
with Microsoft Word and Excel skills. * Ability to handle multiple
projects at the same time. * Dependable. * Detail-oriented. * Good
communication skills and professionalism. * Successful candidates may be
required to pass a background check. * Ability to translate research
results into projectable presentations using PowerPoint or a comparable
presentation program, and/or other web-accessible presentation formats.
Ideally, we are seeking Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Political
Science, Journalism, Economics, Statistics, Environmental Science,
Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or other comparable fields. We
realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have
at least the following required minimum qualifications: Completion of
two years of college and current enrollment in a college program leading
to a Baccalaureate Degree in a professional field specific to the
departmental and/or work assignment. About Everything Else Schedule: A
minimum 160-hour commitment ideally spread over ten-weeks with at least
sixteen hours per week that includes a consistent work schedule. The
schedule is flexible to accommodate work or classes. Upon request, we
